Has anyone heard of...

Has anyone heard of or used medical plans such as these to get their surgery done?

1. Qualified Health (PHCS - Private HealthCare Systems)

2. UA - United American Insurance

Both places say that as long as the surgery is done by a "surgeon" they approve or in their network they will cover the surgery and you pay out of your pocket the rest.

Since I am still waiting on my Urologist to release me - trying to find alternatives to being Full Self Pay for my surgery :)

PHCS said they would pay for mine because my policy did not have an exlcusion...just sounds like you have to stay in network...never heard of UA though...

I guess coverage is different for everyone, even if you have the same insurance. I have PHCS and I had to have a BMI of 40+ (which I didn't have). If I'd met the BMI requirements, I would have been required to have a psych eval, nutritionist eval, all sorts of blood work and tests, not to mention an 18-month doctor supervised diet. Since I have a 38 BMI, I wasn't eligible for the insurance, so I'm doing self-pay. Hell, even if I did have a 40 BMI I wouldn't have gone through insurance. 18-months of supervised diet??? Yeah right! Once I made the decision to get the band, I was not willing to wait another 18-months just to apply for insurance coverage, ya know?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
