New here. Looking for feedback and support

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I'm brand new here and I am scheduled for my band on July 10. Has anyone on here had their surgery at the False Creek Surg Centre in Vancouver? I'm looking to connect with someone who can share their experience with that clinic. I'm excited but also so nervous. Wondering if I chose the right clinic for my procedure. Feedback please??

I don't have any insight in the surgery center, but just wanted to say welcome!! I'm so glad I joined this site. No surgery date for me yet, but I hope to have surgery before the fall.

Thank you all for your replies and support. This seems like a really great site for support. Its ghe final countdown for me and im reallly excited but I'm also getting so nervous. Crying comes way to easily right now. Lol. I have only shared my upcoming surgery with my family and a small handful of friends. I'm too afraid of failure just yet. My surgeon has said if my liver is too fatty, they will close me up without doing the surgery and I will still be on the hook for the bill... No pressure. Lol. So far I've been able to do the pre-op diet without many challenges (other than eating a bit more than the prescribed 2 cups of veg daily) but in Canada it is Canada day weekend and the challenges are about to really begin! So any advice for sticking to the diet or words of wisdom are appreciated.

Congratulations Lori! You are well on your way. Can you share a bit about how you felt post op and any challenges I can prepare for? Did you get the straight banding or did your surgeon do that stomach folding thing (sorry i forget what its called) I keep hearing about?

Thanks Lori. I appreciated the support. I'm excited! But I'm also nervous because During my pre-op diet I cheated! The surgical coordinator told me I could mix the shakes with almond milk so I did for the first few days but she was mistaken. Then just 2 days ago I felt like I was starving and I ate about a third of a chicken breast. I'm terrified that they will open me up for surgery and find my liver is still too big or too fatty and it will have all been for not. Any words of wisdom? Has anyone here had a slip up and still able to go through the surgery?

I did well during pre op diet just having EAS shakes or Atkins (already ready u just drink them) , chicken broth ( from Campbell's soup) fruit Popsicles , sugar free Jello. Just rotated from sweet to salty. U will be fine 1/2 a chicken breat won't effect ur liver. First thing my surgeon and husband told me in recovery was that my liver was one of the biggest he had ever seen!!! Bringing people in OR to look at. ( told him I was so glad I could be so much entertainment lol). And my surgery went fine and he went thru with it having to hold it out of way. And I didn't cheat once in my preop, u will be fine. My liver may have been due to being on methotrexate (chemo drug) for R/A.but he said I definatly need to lose 100 pounds to get liver down. Hope that helps. Lori

I am a July 7th bander! Getting excited and nervous. I am struggling with the liquid diet, but I know it's short term. So far, one kernel of corn is all I have eaten in the 8 days on it. That was kind of a mistake, too, lol. Atkins shakes are what I am using. And I did drink some broth the other night, ohhhhh how delicious the salt was. Going to do it tonight again. Had my pre op appt with nurses and doctor today, and am down 10 lbs in 8 days, bringing my 6 month prep loss to 42 lbs. I am cleared for surgery!!!!! Anyone else in the Rochester, MN area??? Just wondering! Good luck to everyone!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
