My day is fast approaching. I'm on the pre op diet of unlimited Protein Shakes and limited Protein only. (Chicken breast with no skin and no sauce). I haven't lost any weight. Picked up my post op scripts. Found out I'll have to inject myself three times a day post op with blood thinner. I have a few jitters/fears. I live on the 2nd floor of my apt complex and have a rough and tumble 5 year old little boy. I've been telling him mama is gonna have surgery soon so you can't be jumping on my tummy. I'm worried. Will I ever be able to wrestle around with him post op. I know not right away but I mean ever.

I use the bleander too. Throw in a few frozen strawberries and a packet of Truvia sweetner and they are actually pretty good. I'm doing the GNC whey in vanilla (powder).

I think we may have a lot in common. I'm 5'2 33 and a single mom. Mine are older though. (12 & 13) I wish I could have done this when they were younger.

We can all get through this together. I'm definitely looking for a support network.

Hey y'all... My date is quickly approaching as well... I am set for July 24th I unlike most of you don't have a preop diet to follow... Not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing... I am enjoying some of my favorite foods this last week of freedom... I am 33 and have 4 kids.. I work full time and also go to school... I am currently 5'5 and weight about 300lbs.. My heaviest was 335 and that was last September.. Phentermine helped me get that weight off... I am super nervous but so ready to get this over with.. I am sick of the unknowns... So hopefully this will be a great success and we can all lean on each other for the well needed support that will be so greatly needed!!

I've just finished my last Protein Shake before the midnight cutoff time. It's 11pm now and tomorrow morning is the big day. I did all of my laundry today, vacuumed, swept, mopped, and cleaned my apartment like nobody's business. Hopefully it'll last til I'm back up and running again. I'm nervous and excited. I've got my pain meds and heparin ready to go. Not looking forward to injecting meds for the next two weeks.... but I know I can do this. I'll try my best to remember and update tomorrow as soon as I can. Wish me luck.... here I go.

Oh... and my final pre op weigh in was 248lbs.

Hi. I had mine yesterday. Mine was paired with a hernia repair so the pain is a worse. No complications during surgery. Just be prepared and ready to walk every hour. Walking really does help.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
