I won't lie, the ICU was hell, but God IS good and He saw me through it all :)

It was actually kinda funny in the ICU. I couldn't eat until the 5th day I was there because I was being sedated daily for the TPA procedure to dissolve the blood clots. But my very first meal was complete junk- I actually complained to the food service woman asking how they could feed sick people fried, fatty trash? I'm not kidding, it was *that* bad. My nurse overheard and said there were some Ensure shakes at the nurse's station- did I want one? YES!!

The Ensure shakes weren't nearly high enough in Protein and were too high in calories, however I still had one brought to me with every meal. This way, when the food served was nothing I'd even consider eating, I'd just send it back and have the Ensure instead. 85% of the time the Ensure was the better option.

That is pathetic......a hospital serving FRIED fatty food. One would almost think that it's their way of keeping people coming!

Sadly that's what keeps hospitals in business. Sick people, so too keep business good and money coming in stands to reason they would serve food like that.

I once had a professor who in telling a story about a surgery he had commented on how in the middle of this hospital he was in they had a "smoking room" where staff, visitors and even patients can go to smoke. Sounds crazy to be sure something so UN healthy in a hospital setting. I was taking a marketing class, so I commented that it was just more good business for the hospital.

They are not "promoting" smoking but they are not stopping those who want to from doing it, after all that is their client base, and I'm sure they have a similar thinking when it comes to obesity.

If you want to eat it here it is, but do so at your own risk. Kudos to you for not accepting it, and making your own wiser choice! That is not so easy to do especially when you are at the mercy of others.

You definitely are a warrior and great source of inspiration. Through many obstacles you haven't given up and have a great attitude.

I, too, appreciate you sharing your trials and tribulations and success stories along the way. We can all learn a lot from you and others in doing so.

He has a plan for you and it wasn't your time. So glad you are doing better and recovering nicely. Your kids and family must be so relieved as well and so proud of you!

You light my light. Thank you for sharing! I was going good until they found cancer in my left breast. I had that removed last summer and am still healing. I had tests & new mammogram last month and was pronounced "cancer free". I feel great but the light eating mind-set is not happening. I plan to walk, walk & walk this summer, so I should find my stride soon & get back on the plan.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
