What are you NOT ABLE to eat?

I know many of you do not eat many things "by choice" i.e. bread, Pasta, rice, beef, etc. but what I would like to know is what are you NOT ABLE to eat? So, NOT by choice. Just curious as I know everyone is different

Hmmm, I struggle with bread sometimes, I guess that is because it is just so hard to chew right down. As long as I either pre cut my food into small pieces or chew really well I am pretty much ok with everything as long as it is a couple of hours after I get up. First thing in the morning is a no no for me. I am fine with rice, and veggies, most fruit is good, but apples that arent peeled can cause issues. Its common sense really, if it is too big to go through the gap it will get stuck, so gulping your food down will cause you problems no matter what it is.

Hi Yes. I know that you are trying to anticipate as much as possible, what your future holds once you are banded. I tried to do the same...I trolled this forum all the time, reading everything I could including the bad stuff. I just wanted to know what to expect.

All I can tell you as a person banded five months now is that everyone really and truly experiences this journey individually. I have not had any fills and have lost 67 lbs. I can eat anything...there's no Fluid in my band. I must must must measure out my food so I can stop before eating too much. I tend to under-eat when at restaurants because I can't measure my food. I know some people bring measuring devices to restaurants...but not me. I would be horrified to bring that kind of attention to myself.

I'm getting better at eyeballing the portions, but I'm not always right. Last week I thought I ate well portion wise during a lunch out at work, and I did not. I was full...uncomfortably about a half hour after eating and did not eat anything else the rest of the day.

I've read enough posts that I know some people cannot tolerate rice, or meat, or shellfish, or Pasta or bread. I had steak yesterday at a Father's Day BBQ. First time attempting it but I figured I'd be OK and I was. Again...I just ate a little of it...same with the salmon, veggies, potato, shrimp and tuna. I even had a few spoonfuls of panna cotta for dessert.

The only foods I stay away from are very chewy items such as calamari or even clams/mussels. I still chew well and it's no fun chewing and chewing those foods. Good luck with your surgery.

I can pretty much eat anything, as long as the size is small enough and I chew it enough.

The only thing I might have trouble with, from time to time is chicken, if its too dry. Last night I did have chicken and it went well, I dipped it in a ranch yogurt.

Fresh white loaf bread. Everything else is good in small bites well chewed.

I have trouble with bread, but if I do it right, very small bites, very slowly, I can manage. I can't eat corn, or the skin of a potato. The very worst, I can't eat clams, one of my favorite things ever, at all!!!! No dry meat at all. I have finally learned, when trying something new, if I can't get it chewed up to the consistency of applesauce, I don't swallow it!

Shrimp. Every ti e I try even if I chew the dickens out of it I still get the screeching halt OUCH after I swallow.

bread, and most meats, but let me say I still eat small amounts of meat, but since in most cases I have to chew it forever..I just get tired :D so I prefer to get Protein in other sources. My friend has yet to eat Salad's and she's been banded for 5-6 yrs?

So far, I'm able to eat most anything. I had a problem with white rice before so I don't eat it at all

I chew everything thoroughly so I've been lucky with food.< /p>

I can eat everything in very small amounts. The only problem is that I can eat all the sugar I want, Cookies cakes ice cream candy I can eat it all :(

Blueberries and grapes have been giving me problems lately. Everything else so far so good!

      Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

        I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
