Two Questions about time off and hospital stay

Recommended Posts

Ok....to all the seasoned bander on here...I have a few questions

1) My surgery is on a monday (8 Jul) and I was planning on returning to work the next monday....is that feasible?

2) One question I forgot to ask the NP at my last appt. Did you have to stay overnight or was yours done as same day?

Thanks again for all the support. You guys have no idea how helpful this sight is for me!

Lisa

For both questions, just remember everyone is different and each surgeon has their own protocol. With that being said, I had surgery on a Monday and was back to work the next Monday. I thought I would go back within 3 or 4 days but NO WAY! I was pretty fatigued the day I went back, but I think that was because of my low number of calories and Protein I was consuming. I did not have to stay the night. From what I hear on LBT, most lapband patients don't have to spend the night in the hospital. Good luck! It's all worth it!

Every surgeon is different. My surgery was outpatient... surgery in the am and home by noon. Depending on how strenuous your job is one week should be OK. If there is a lot of lifting involved, you may need a bit more. Get a recommendation from the doctor at surgery.

Thank you both for the info! I do have a desk job....so I will allow myself a full week and then listen to my body! Thanks again...Lisa

I would say your healing will be individual. But, 1 week seems to be okay. My son was out over the weekend, but then on light duty until approved to go back to regular work by surgeon. He works lifting heavy loads. As far as surgery, my insurance demanded overnight stay, otherwise it would have been in/out surgery. Bets wishes for great healing. Mostly, going back to the time off, make sure that you can get up and walk, at times. Karen

My surgeon required an overnight stay, and two full weeks out of work to give your body time to heal.

My Dr.told me I could go back to work on Monday after having surgery on Friday. So I did wish I had taken a week off.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
