Stuck but not restricted...

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! So I seem to get stuck quite a bit but I don't feel like I have enough restriction. It's a weird situation because I feel like I could stand to get another fill for a bit more restriction but I can't imagine getting another fill and possibly getting stuck more then I am now. Has anybody else experienced this??

Everthing I eat gets stuck. I'm thinking my band is too restricted. Does it hurt when it gets stuck? What do you do to get un-stuck? Nothing is working for me, and I am not losing like I should. I feel constantly hungry :(

I move my arms over my head, standing and moving until unstuck. Also, papaya enzyme works for me if stuck on Protein. Chew four tablets.

The stuck to me is more a heavy ache in my chest, rather than pain. Does that make sense?

I also feel no restriction, but have gotten stuck, once unstuck, could continue eating. I have to keep dieting mentality.

If you get stuck, you should go back to liquids for the next 24 hours to give the swelling from being stuck a chance to go down.

You can get stuck without restriction. It's more likely related to the amount you tried to swallow-either too big of a bite or food not chewed enough.

When my band has been too tight, I end up gaining weight because I eat a lot of slider foods since they pass through easier.

Hope this answers your concerns.

Oh that is no fun! yeah i think you may be to tight also...i'd make an appointment with your surgeon asap. like Quahog said, I try to kind of stretch my stomach a little by standing up tall. Also, as gross as this sounds, I regurgitate whatever is stuck. It helps a ton. And yeah sometimes it hurts when I'm stuck but it usually just feels like pressure in my chest. Also drinking something sometimes help (especially something hot) because it either helps things slide down or it help to bring it up and relieve the pressure. I hope this helps! And I hope you can eat without getting stick all the time soon!

This is exactly what happens to me...it kind if stinks. I think I need to see my surgeon, though it's really hard since I go to college 7 hours away from my surgeon and he only offers fill appointments in the middle of the week -__-

If you get stuck all the time, get an unfill! If you are not restricted you must be eating slider foods. Time for a chat with th Doc and Nutritionist.

I do think I need an unfill...it's just been hard to schedule being so far away from my surgeon and being in college. But I'm not really eating slider foods because the slider foods don't get stuck...so that's not really my problem, but I will get to my surgeon as soon as I can.

Sounds like you might be eating too fast... I'd try slowing down and chewing your food more!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
