closing in on 7 years post-op

Recommended Posts

Hi Shelly your story inspires me. I just got banded Monday 5/20 and I am hearing so many negative things from family and friends about the band. I just want to constantly cry and I am wondering did i make the right decision. I am so glad to see that the band helped you to lose the unwanted pounds when you put your mind to it and now that you want to do it again you are able to do so. Thanks for sharing!

Hugs to you...no tears! If the people around you can't give you the emotional support you need, please message me or if you'd like I can give you my phone number. No one should feel as though they are going through this alone, there are far too many of us who are here and willing to walk with you through this journey.

Does anyone else have long term post-op stories good or bad? Would like to know more about long term use of the lap band. :)

My coworker has had the band for almost 11 years. I didn't recognize her before picture, it looks nothing like her at all now (starting 365, current 155, 5'9" tall) . For lack of a better description, she is a living, breathing Barbie doll now and my inspiration for getting the surgery. She looks absolutely incredible, no extra skin, looks like she's been model pretty her entire life. She has not had any complications what so ever and as far as I can tell she eats whatever she wants to.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
