Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

will my brain ever catch up?

Recommended Posts

Today I stopped by meijer with my seven year old to buy him some new boxers. I decided while I was there to purchase myself some summer pajamas since I don't have any. I avoided the plus size section, logically knowing they'd be too big. I picked up some XL and studied them for a second. My son isn't the most patient, so I couldn't try them on. I looked at that XL thinking they'd be too right, but knowing if they were "it wouldn't be long" until they looked decent.

I got home, put them on, and they're actually slightly baggy.

Is my brain ever going to catch up and compute that I'm the size I am now while clothes shopping? Lol! Do any of you others do this? I guess it's a good problem to have.... :D

And a good NSV.

I have the same problem. Even if I DO try things on, I always think they are too small. I try to take my husband with me in the dressing room, or text him pictures. I bring in the size I think I am, plus one smaller, and I make myself try them both!

I do this all the time but I'm getting better when shopping I go straight to the plus size section just out of habit currently a size 10-12 down from 20-22 I guess it's just hard to adjust to at times

I do the same thing and it doesn't help when each manufacture has there own idea of what a centain size is. but it is nice that the size we pick is always to big instead of always to small...

It is a hard thing to wrap my head around too. I love being able to shop in the ladies department instead of the plus sizes. So many more options! :)

I am so glad I'm not alone.. Haha.

I wonder when my head is finally going to catch up? I still instinctively want to go to the plus sized section as well. Then I am like, "oh, yeahhhhh". LOL. It is pretty awesome being able to shop in the regular part of the store though. I don't think I've ever in my adult life been able to stroll into a place like Meijer and just pull any old pair of pajamas off the rack. I'd be looking for 3-4x's and failing because you'll only find one of those sizes out of every 20-30 pairs it seems like.

I am so happy for my new life. It's just weird adjusting still. In my head I'm still a fat girl!

I had this very thought just yesterday. I have been getting so many compliments at how thin I'm getting but right behind those comments are " and your clothes look too big for you to be wearing to work anymore" so I decided to head on over to New York and Company. I automatically head to the far right end of the rack to grab the biggest size that I would wear from that store which was an 18/ 20, Turns out I am down to a 12. I couldn't believe my eyes and had to re check the size on the tag. Yup, I'm wearing a 12! Yay... So putting on clothes that fit helps me realize the changes I have gone through. Hard work, sweat and even pain are paying off. It's like they say no pain no gain! Congrats to everyone on your NSV's....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
