Port Adjustment

Recommended Posts

I have been for 3 fills since my surgery on 1/10/13. The first under fluoro in the hospital. The stick was no big deal, but my dr really had to dig around for a loooong time before finding the spot to give me a fill-but I did get a fill. The second time was in the office (4/10/13) and the np stuck me three different times and was really digging around again and could not find the spot to give me a fill. So, she sent me back to the hospital later on to try with my dr under fluoro again. That appt was yesterday. The same thing happened again, lots of digging around, only one stick though and still no fill. Now I have to go on the 30th for a port adjustment. He is going to stitch my port to the muscles in my stomach so that it won't "float around". Has anyone else had an experience like this?

My port is stitched in place, and it is also very pronounced. I can feel a bump where the port is located, and even the tube attachment point. Never had a problem with APRN finding the port in three fills.

It should have been stitched into place during surgery, not left floating around.

Did yours maybe tear loose? It's not common but it can and does happen.

My dr uses mesh when the port is placed. It may have also been stitched during the original surgery, just not to the muscles in my stomach. My port is turned slightly toward my feet, but not a great deal. I should not be experiencing these problems according to my dr. I just ended up with a "stubborn port". I have not had anything to happen that would have made it move or tear loose.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
