I got stuck yesterday morning and it never cleared. Today I still can't get liquids down and it's 7pm. Should I go to the ER or try to wait it out until tomorrow and go see my doctor. I'm worried about dehydration. I'm so damn thirsty! I try to drink just to taste the Water but then I have to throw it back up. Help!

I also worry about going to the ER and having an unexperienced doctor try to unfill me! They could damage my port or tubing if not done properly.

Call your surgeon, there should be an emergency number. He can always call and prep the ER.

Do you think dehydration is a major concern at this point?

Yes, call your surgeon. In the meantime, try sucking on some ice chips or sugar free popsicles.

Yes, dehydration is a very real risk. You need to go to the ER.

Call your surgeon's office (I'm assuming they have an emergency number) and let them know you're going to the ER. This way, he can either meet you there or give the staff instructions.

Worst case scenario, go to the ER and get IV fluids but don't let them touch your band. Then go to your surgeon immediately tomorrow.

I have somewhere around 6cc's in a 10 cc band. I got stuck on shredded beef. It's not fun being stuck. This is a record long time to be stuck!

A note on dehydration

The U.S. Forestry Service survival training guide suggests 3 days without Water is a serious threat to survival.

Is stuck different than throwing up mucus after eating something you shouldn't?

Still learning

Everyone is different. I usually will produce the mucus when stuck and going through the Productive Burping motions(PBing) I will clear the mucus and sometimes the food will pass through the band, sometimes it makes its way up. Your body produces the mucus because it is trying to protect itself against what it thinks is stomach acid.

To the OP, glad you called your doctor, everyone needs to learn from this....don't be afraid to call your doctor. That phone call meant the difference between the ER performing emergency surgery to push the food through the band and you getting a momentary unfill to let the food pass. Good luck tomorrow and let us know what he decided to do.

We all have to learn what we can eat and what we can't I had posted a week or two ago that I know longer can eat hot dogs or pork chops and I saw somewhere that some of us can't do some meats especially if they are stringy oh ya I also can't do roast or anything like that found that out really quick having some bad stuck episodes so I just don't eat them anymore , we just have to try and make the right choices for us ,well let us all know what happens please so we know from your experience please and thankyou.

this may help and may not but I was once stuck on broccoli for 5.5 hrs and someone on here was kind enough to be up at 2:30 a.m. and told me to take a sip of Sprite or carbonated drink and fizz brought whatever was stuck right up, I puked it up. You might want to give it a try. In the meantime, good luck at the dr's tomorrow, keep us posted.

Well, I was able to get to my doctors office by 10am. I was so miserable, that I laid down in his waiting room! He removed ALL Fluid from my band. That Water he gave me was the best thing I've ever tasted! I told him I was concerned about a slip since I threw up so many times. He would have done an ex ray immediately if it wasn't for the hospital not having an opening until 2, which was too close to the time I need to pick up my kids from school. So I chose to go home and see how I feel tomorrow and keep an eye out for symptoms. Since I didn't sleep at all last night, I'm off to take a nap.

Thank you LBT family for helping me through this horrible experience!

P.S. when they weighed me today, I was floored to see that I am officially at my goal weight of 145! Yippee!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
