I received my lapband on Friday the 13th in November 2009. Dr. Henderson was my doctor at the time, but he soon left and Dr. Kent took over. I lost 35 pounds right at first from being on a liquid diet 2 weeks before and 1 week after. I lost a few more pounds after that but no more. I fluctuated up a few and down a few for the next three years. I began having probems eating and keeping it down after the first few weeks. Sometimes I would have no problems, but for the most part, anytime I would eat a meal I would have to run to the bathroom. This went on for the duration and got worse as time went by. I had to have my lapband removed in January 2013 because it had eroded into my stomach. I lost 20 pounds during my stay at the hospital that lasted 4 and 1/2 days. I kept running a fever so I had to stay longer than normal. I feel much better now and I am maintaining my weight. I can't lose any because I still have the problem of having no thyroid gland that's active. So I am right back where I started from except I am not over 200 lbs - YET!!! And that's my story and I am sticking to it.

What a horrible journey! I have to admit, I get a little nervous when I hear stories about band erosion. I was banded on 12/31/12 and (knock on wood) no problems at all. I wish you the best.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
