NJChick   3 Posted April 28, 2006 Cocoa Mulch kills animals (dogs, cats). This has been around for a while and i'm not sure if the stores still sell it but being its that time of year where folks are fixing up thier flower gardens and such...it can't hurt to take a look. http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/cocoamulch.asp

DevilMayKare   1 Posted April 29, 2006 Gosh, I've used Cocoa mulch for YEARS and always had dogs--and even babysat dogs. Never had any problem with it. I probably wouldn't have used it if I'd seen this warning. BUt I dunno... I belonged to a large Organic Gardening club for years and many of those people use cocoa mulch and they are REALLY into their dogs. (Many of them even make their own dog food because don't think the name brands are healthy enough.) I have never heard of this danger before & you'd think I would have. But it sure DOES smell like chocolate. If I have one complaint about cocoa mulch it's that it makes me want to fix a steaming cup of cocoa-- with marshmallows.< /p>
3loves   0 Posted April 29, 2006 Thanks for the tip. I had no idea they even made such stuff. Being a chocolate lover, the smell would entice my cravings. :phanvan Better stick with cedar mulch. BTW, our chocolate lab is named after the famous "Malley's Chocolates"....her name is Malley, of course. I would be likely to wake up smack dab in the middle of my landscaping with a mouthful of it and a glass of warm milk!!!!!!! hehehehe Cheri ~ You are too much girl!!
NJChick   3 Posted April 30, 2006 My dog LOVES chocolate, she's like her mama, anyway I could picture her trying to eat it. I can't imagine with my addition to chocolate having my yard smell like it (bet I'd gain 10 lbs just smelling it), good thing it doesn't smell like pnut butter....I'd really be screwed.
