My story begins in 2009. I received the lap band b\c my doctor told me that I was too big for the hysterectomy surgery that I needed or my cysts could, and probably would become cancerous. Believe it or not, I received the my lap band w\in 4months. I did lose just enough weight to have the surgery, but complications came about, and the doctors could not finish removing my cervix. After the surgery depression hit HARD, and now I am heavier then when I first started. My surgeon did not have support groups, nor did I adventure out to find one. I thought I was strong, and did not need one. Boy was I WRONG!

I now have a second chance. Yesterday, April 27, 2013, I made a HUGE mistake by eating a piece of steak, and it got logged in my lap band. I am admitting I need help and support. I'm so glad I found this site. To see the disappointing look on my surgeon's face, and the pain I am still going through pains me. It's about time I get my act together, lose weight, and become healthy!

Day 1: sips of Water throughout the day.

Don't be too hard on yourself; we are imperfect creatures. All you can do is try your best - and find a good support group to join. Good luck to you!!!

Are you in an area where you can possibly find another doctor that specializes in bariatrics? My original surgeon was in a dedicated bariatrics practice and always took time to counsel me with all the do's and don'ts. The entire staff from the NPs to the receptionist were kind and caring and acted genuinely interested in my progress and success. If I had a bad month there was no scolding or shaming!

Then a year after surgery, we had to move and I had to find another doctor. The doctor I'm seeing now is a general surgeon that also does bariatrics. It is a completely different feel in his office compared to my original surgeon. Everyone in the new office is nice enough, but I just don't feel like they genuinely care about my success. There is no counseling... it's just more or less "Do you think you need a fill today."

The right support can be key to success!!!!

Holy Cow you have been through the ringer. I can't believe you think you could ever be a failure after surviving such a traumatic experience. You're strong girl! Don't beat yourself up over a little piece of partially chewed steak. Relax, you are learning an entirely new way of life. Most people give up and make excuses for their size. You are obviously a fighter. Remember, the key to winning is not to never get knocked down, it's to always get back up.

I got no info. when I got my surgery. I did most of my own research, but it was half fast to be honest. I do have a good surgeon, but that's what he is a general surgeon. In and out, kind of thing.

I found a class at our local hospital that I'm going to sign up for. This is good:)

That's so sad! There are much better out there if you can find them. I'm sure your surgeon was fine, as my doctor is now. But sometimes "fine" just isn't good enough... I hope you can find someone else...

Houma, La.

My doctor/nutritionist/RN gave me that information. I have kept it and have passed it along to banded and non banded friends.

Full of great information and tips to succeed.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
