Time between band and sleeve

Recommended Posts

I had my Lapband removed a couple of weeks ago and will have the sleeve done 4 months after removal. Did you feel up to another surgery at that time? I'm actually wanting to have it done 3 months after because I think I will gain so much weight.

First sorry your band had to be removed, second yes you can gain your weight back quickly if you allow yourself to go back to the old habits we all had before band. Weight lose was so hard for all of us before LB and other surgeries, without that added protection I know you must be scared. Try changing your thought process of "I think I will gain my weight back, to "I am not going to gain my weight back." I know that may sound silly but the power of positive thinking can and has been proving to help with many changing ones outcomes. I know you can hang on for 4 months, plan your meals and when hungry, refocus your self and remember what your long term goal is. Good luck to you with the sleeve I know you will do awesome!

I was banded January 2012. Started having problems in late July; had an unfill and started refilling. Same problem occurred in October. Was diagnosed with a slip and was rebanded and added plication in November.

My recovery from my initial band surgery was awful. For a solid week I felt so weak and sick and lifeless, so I was really dreading going through the surgery again!

However, my recovery from the second surgery, even though more detailed because of the plication, was a breeze. I never had one bad day; didn't have any pain to speak of, and no gas pains in my shoulders. I don't have any explanation for why one was bad and the other was a breeze.

Hopefully yours will be a breeze too!!!

Thank you both for your replies. I'm certainly going to start planning meals better.

Toddy sounds like you had a great recovery second time round. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
