Which band do I want?? Realize vs Allergan/Lap

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for May 28. They asked me today which band do I want... I asked the differences and the Allergan they said might have more port turns or seems like more band slips and is filled already but they notice ppl losing weight quicker with this one??... and the realize is more forgiving and not as many slips/port turnings... I'm confused... any advise?

I wasn't able to choose. My dr chose for me during surgery. Btw, my 14cc Realize band DID slip (now I need revision surgery.

Id ask my dr what would s/he do? I truly think its the choice of the dr after seeing ur anatomy.

Your doctor should decide from his experience.

i dont (think the bands name) will help anyone lose weight faster (at least i dont think so)....if you eat right, exercise and follow the how to use the band correctly directions, you will lose weight whether its allergen or realize...

i asked my dr this (which does he use) as i read those who have one or the other.....mine used allergen and that is fine with me.

What does your Dr advise?

The lady on the phone says he would lean toward the realize band because of the long term success/less complications. It kinda threw me off that she even asked that...I mean, how am I supposed to know which band to get??

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
