Hi all, I was hoping some of you could define what you mean when you say you "can't eat." I think this is different for everyone and I experience the inability to eat more than I'd like. For me, I usually "can't eat" when I've waited too long to eat. Then, when I take that first bite, it sits in the back of my throat and doesn't move. And sometimes there is pain as well. Then my body forces a PB and up comes all this slime (9.5 times out of 10 this happens). And then my stomach gurgle gurgle gurgles and babbles like a brook. It's like air/gas is pushing up and wanting to get out. Until all that gas comes up and all the slime is out of me, there's no way I even attempt to eat again. Does anyone else have this similar type of issue? I'm going to my doctor tomorrow so I'm definitely going to talk to him about this. I think I'm only in the yellow zone too so does that mean this is going to get worse as I get tighter, into the green zone? I can't imagine. I'm just short of one year post op if that matters. I appreciate any feedback and other's experiences.

You are probably too tight, or, you're having a difficult time adjusting to the eat small bites and chew chew chew?

Ask yourself and check this out? Can you wait to eat too long and still eat Soup or slider foods? Or, is it just meats or breads? If you can eat slider type foods with no problem, you probably aren't chewing enough or taking small bites?

Or you could have first bite syndrome.

That is what I think I have, it is so annoying as I am still not in the green zone. One bite and chew chew chew then stuck, and sooo hungry.

Re: First bite syndrome? 5 months in, I too thought the same, but I really was not chewing enough or taking small enough bites. I thought I was eating small and chewing big but 5 months later I had an epiphany that I really wasn't.

It's a combination of eating very samll bites, chewing to a complete mush and giving the bite time to pass through the stoma. I still struggle with this part of the journey but I'm so much better at it now.

Your Doctor or even your nut would know and it's always a good idea to get a professional opinion.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
