Is or has anyone tried juicing while on the lapband? Pro/cons?

I keep going back and forth buying a juicer.....the health benefits are overwhelming...many of my friends do (non banded)

I always purchase one when I'm at a place where they have a menu for them.....

But I am more concerned about getting as much Protein as I need daily, and as of yet I am not sure I can accomplish that with a juicer....

juice flows right through the band so you won't get the satiety you get from solid food. imo

I don't think it's so great for a bandster

No restriction and the calories slide right through

I have a juicer, I make carrot, apple(from my tree), and other veggie or fruit juice but only put a little in my Water or flavored waters. I also put the carrot Fiber in other receipts.

I've been juicing a month now, and it kick started me out of a stall! (Of course I work out more, eat well and track too)

I think it's partly cos u feel like being healthier and actually less hungry when ur body is nourished with Vitamins and minerals.

That's why 30 mins after a McDonalds meal people get hungry again, cos there is nothing to really nourish your body.

My skin + energy levels have improved greatly.

The trick for WLS people is keep the fruit out of the juicer. Greens greens greens! It's not tasty to drink with all that kale, celery and spinach in the juicer but taste isn't the point.

I have a green juice first thing before my Breakfast (usually an egg or egg on toast).

If u don't use fruits, the calories and sugar are very low. Some days when I'm not in the mood for the bitter green taste, I add a small green apple or some carrots.

I recommend trying it!

I've recently got the juicer used on the "fat, sick and nearly dead" movie. It works well. $149 at BestBuy. The veggie juices work for me as a Meal Replacement for "breakfast".

BUT, if you can find the "NakedJuice" brand juice in your local grocer/quick stop, they are almost as cheap as making your own. Plus, NO CLEANUP! :) And I think they're pretty good tasting.

Awesome! Thanks for all the info. I just purchased my juicer yesterday and I am super excited about incorporating it into my eating.

I am going to talk to my Dr. about juicing as a supplement, like you said for Breakfast or maybe even a lunch along with my Protein.

I am looking at the Omega Vert 350 HD for my juicer.. currently I have a black n decker model that is a high speed juicer, the Vert is a slow masticating juicer. So less veggies you have to use for the same amount of juice.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
