Should I skip the next fill?

Recommended Posts

So far I am losing at least two pounds a week, mostly due to going to the health club every day for cardio, and by following a 1000 calorie diet with good Protein intake (over 60 grams.)

I've had three fills, but except for the first few days after the last fill I don't feel any restriction. I can eat a whole banana, etc. without getting stuck. But... I do feel feel after a eating a meal, and so far I've haven't had serious late night carb munchies.

Should I go for a fourth, small fill to control portions, and go to four meals a day from three, or should I wait and see how far I can go with my current status? I kind of like being able eat what I want, even though I avoid the bad stuff.

Let your doctor help you decide if you need a fill or not, but remember the band isn't supposed to physically stop you from eating anything. So, don't gauge whether or not you need a fill based on what or how much you can eat.

Can you go at least 4 hours after a cup or less of food without hunger? If yes, you probably don't need a fill. If no, then you might need a small one.

Talk to your doctor.

Best wishes

I think if your loosing and eating healthy just wait till u can no longer do it,then go for fill. Hey my thought is if it works stick with it :). I only go for a fill when I can eat waaaay more than a cup of food. And start the late night carb munchies,,, but it's your body u do what u feel is best for you :)

Well, I certainly can eat more than a cup of food, but it is "good" food. Proteins mostly. For folks eating one cup at a meal, are you doing more than three meals a day?

Shoot I can eat way more than 1 cup of food now. That's why I'm going for fill on Monday.

Most of us can eat more than a cup of food, that's why we're supposed to measure our portions. It's our job to stop eating after a cup not the band's job to force us.

Have a look at this link, I think it will help you understand: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Mis73. I know this all to well but now at eating 1/2c of food does not even satisfy me. That's why in turn my dr says I need small adjustment so I do as my drs tell me, they know what's best for me and my band. We r all different no 2 ppl are alike. I have friends who have never had a fill and others who are at 9 cc in a 10 cc band. So I am getting a fill as my dr advised. Than you for your interest in me

I believe that is what Mis73 was trying to convey with her posts.....you need to follow your doctors recommendations and that she is not a doctor. Just someone who has lost over 200 pounds and still rocking with her band and pretty much knows quite a bit about being successful with it. Good luck to you with your next fill....I hope it works out for you. :)

My surgeon's office has us fill out a survey before each appointment. if you answer yes to certain questions, you might need a fill. It sounds to em that you probably do not, but it is best to talk to you surgeon and decide between the 2 of you. Best wishes and great results so far! Karen

Restriction shouldn't be your only guide, satiety should be a major factor. I skipped my last one, even through I was plateaued because I thought I was on the loose side of the green zone and wanted time to adjust. I go back in next week and may or may not get a tweak.

I had to argue and fight for the third, I wasn't losing an ounce almost three months out from surgery and getting discouraged. The APRN said I was doing about .25 lbs a week, and he was happy with that loss... I wasn't!

I know I can lose the weight with diet and exercise, done it before. It's those long winter months when you don't want to go and be active that do me in.

Right now I don't feel any restriction, regardless of what I eat, except for a few very dry foods that go down slow. But, I am curious for those who measure a cup of food per meal--how many meals do you eat, how calories per day, and how much Protein? I'm on the low side for protein--about 60 to grams, and that's eating yogurt for Breakfast and fish fillets for lunch and supper. I try to keep the calorie count at 1000 for the day. Despite not having noticeable restriction, I still feel satiated after my meals, which I guess is the start of the Green Zone? I do feel some restriction for a few days after a fill--is that caused by the stomach swelling and reacting to the increased band pressure? But, that feeling subsides in a few weeks.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
