Do I need another fill?

Recommended Posts

I am 2 1/2 months post-op. I had my first fill at 6 weeks, with no effect. In fact, after a 20 pound loss pre and post-op, the scale began moving in the other direction. I had a second adjustment two weeks later. My weight loss has been good since then. My prescribed amount of food, USUALLY keeps me satisfied for about 4 hours, though this is not always the case. I have an appointment today for another fill, if I need it. My question is, do I need it?

No one here can or should try to answer that....but only share their experiences.

So here's mine....

My first fill was 4 weeks after sugery, 4cc's....after that I GAINED weight!

2nd fill was 4 weeks after the first, after that things leveled out, and I began to loose again, but very slowly...but there was a difference.

3rd, and final fill, was 4 weeks after the 2nd....that one was the charm! I could have almost said I was too tight but instead my Dr. encouraged me to adhere to the rules, change my old habits...which I did, and it put me comfortably in the Green!

Loosing weight was very easy and effortless since then....as a matter of fact I stopped loosing about 16 months ago. Dr. assured me there is simply nothing left to loose! It is now a new lifestyle, with no more obsessing about my weight and diets, calories, etc.

Life AFTER lap Band!

So wether or not you need a fil is up to you and your comfort Zone, satisfaction and happiness....

There are some people who have never had a fill....they're loosing weight, they're happy and pleased...so what else matters?? Only that the individual is happy.

You're one of the lucky ones to find so much satiety so soon. You could probably go for a small fill or not. Most of us find that the restriction we have early on is not static but it's ever-changing. Again, you could be one of the lucky ones who find a lasting right amount of restriction and satiety with just a few fills. Good luck.

And if you're comfortable where you are, you always have the option for another adjustment?

the guys are right. I found that the band helps y head hunger and I didn't get that until my band was alittle over half full it then that it became a real tool for me. You and your doctor will work out what is best for you its more about how often ypu hungry and how much food it takes to stay on program its still a diet no matter how you look at it..good work so far

This is what my nutritionist said to do. When you track your meals make notes about how long you stay satisfied. Then you can share that info with your doctor to see if you need a fill. Sounded like a good idea to me. Best of luck!!

I had my first fill 6 weeks after surgery. The surgeon put in 5 cc and he said I have a pretty good restriction and I agree since I am satisfied for 4 hours. I had my 2nd fill yesterday and he added 2 cc and I think it was too tight since I was having problem swallowing Water. He took out 1.25 cc (he first took .5 cc, then another .5cc and then another .25cc). It's too early to tell if I am on my green zone but I am hoping.

Great!! 10 pounds in two weeks is awesome!

I also gained a bit after surgery... it wasn't until the third fill, and also really getting on track watching calories and Protein, until I was feeling satiated between meals. I also noticed the "restriction" feeling fell off soon after each fill. I think I am nearing the green zone... going to see the APRN on May 8th for a followup.

I have noticed that as well. I find that I'm hopeless eating until after four in the day . My evening meal goes down no problem but before then I invariably PB.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
