Gas pain, incision problem and scared.

Recommended Posts

I have a question about gas in the abdominal cavity. I had my surgery this morning and I woke with a terrible pain that felt like it was going to one incision to the next. Is this gas pains? And know I can move with out too much pain.

Thank you for the help.

Those gas pains really hurt at times.....I had them bad. I affectionately named my gas bubble Gus and he put me thru hell for a few days. Would move from my tummy area incisions....to my left shoulder and back again just when I thought he had made his exit....LOL. Hang in there and walk as much as you can....this helped me immensely. I started out just walking the halls of the hospital (I was an overnighter at surgeons request)....I walked so much that the nurses said I wore a path in the carpet of the halls...LOL. When I got home, I walked the house and then started outside. At first I could only walk a short distance of a block or so. Now, even though the pain of Gus was gone within 5 days of being home, I still take my daily walks and am working on a little more distance every day. You will be surprised when you wake up one day...(I'm there now) and the only thing you feel is a slight discomfort in your tummy incisions (I have 5 but only one seems to feel a bit sore). Then you will get stronger with each day that passes. Hang in there.....pain is only temporary! You can do this!! Best of luck to you!! :)

Hey everyone,

I need help. I had surgery the 16th of april. I have really bad gas pains I got discharged yesterday. I took Gas X for the gas pains but i'm still having a lot of pain. Also my biggest incision opened up while i was at the hospital they glued it back together but i'm scared that it might open up again from the consent bending and getting up from bed. I'm scared that it might get infected. What should i do? Also Can i drink BOOST for a Protein drink? I've been drinking Isopure but the after taste is nasty. Any suggestions please i would truly appreciate it.

My bariatric team gave me a list of Protein supplements that were approved because of protein quantities and the one I found on it that suited my budget and tastes great is Muscle Milk Lite in chocolate flavor.....It also comes in vanilla, strawberry and banana flavors. I throw it in the blender with skim milk instead of the directions calling for Water because the milk boosts the protein values and even some ice and the end result is a great tasting milkshake.....I look forward to them!!! Never thought I would ever say that....LOL. Best of luck to you! :)

For the newly banded, take a deep breath and relax. is all uncharted territory for you, but we have all been there and we are here to say it does get better. Walk as much as you are able, swing your arms. Heating pad on top of shoulders, all these help. And please limit the heavy duty pain killers, they don't help the gas and can easily cause Constipation to further your woes.

It will get better... just relax and try not to stress about everything.

Best Wishes

Yes its normal! Lol i'm still bloated! Its because of all the air you have inside. Just make sure your incisions don't become infected if they do, call your surgeon and go to the hospital! Also check your temp, make sure you don't have a fever over 100. If you do go to the ER!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
