My Journey Starting With Pre Op Diet

I'm sorry you get dehydrated. Is that something that is normal? Definitely check to see if you have stones. Have your husband pick up a new thermometer on the way home. I sure hope you don't have an infection. I wouldn't worry about the weight right now. Just concentrate on getting well.

Linda

Yes I get dehydrated easily and I know it's all my fault. I get so busy doing things that I forget to drink Water and even eat. I really need to work more on that. I have been carrying a water bottle around everywhere. I felt so sick when I went to the doctors that I didn't even really think about asking about kidney stones or infection. I think I might have passed a stone and drinking more water has made me feel better.

. If you don't drink enough Water you will get dehydrated you have to drink 64 oz specially if you taking the Calcium vit if not you will get kidney stones that's what my doctor said cause I already had stones surgery 3 years ago

I'm getting my 64 oz of water in now, and I feel better. Wow you had to have surgery to remove them??? I had to just let it pass last time.

When I had diarrhea mine told me to start taking some tipe of Fiber I went to GNC and got chia chews and believe it helped a lot. No more bathroom runs. Thanks for sharing it makes me relax so tomorrow I won't be scared.

Thanks for the info. I think I will for sure pick some of that up today since I still have diarrhea. I'm glad sharing my fill experience helped you feel more relaxed. I hope your feel went great.

No fill today. My doctor said no fill for at least 2 more months that's when I'm suppose to be on solids. For right now full liquid diet.. Soy milk unsweetened ' date=' or 1% yogurt low fat no fruit on bottom , Greek yogurt higher in Protein that reg., cream of wheat , rice Cereal , grits, cream Soups preferably Beans is high in protein , Iron and Fiber , apple sauce , natural juices no concentrated , sugar free pudding ,sugar free ice cream , Decaf coffe , and Water water water don't forget Vitamins and my proteinex18[/quote']

That sucks you didn't get a fill. Your doctor has you on a very strict regimen. The upside at least you are on full liquids now. Stay strong, your doing so great!!!

It is nice to have family close, but also nice they are not too close. It just sucks to pay the gas to go see them. I really can't wait to spend more time with my nieces. We are stoping in Las Vegas for two days before we get to Fort Irwin, it was my youngest daughters birthday request. She wants to see the lights and go on the roller coasters. I have been to Las Vegas several times so it will be different this time going with my kids, husband, and my sister, nieces, and mom are suppose to meet us there. I can't wait to take my son to Disneyland like I took my girls, first I need to lose more weight. I miss the beach a lot. I'm so excited to go home. After 4 years I hope we can go back to Washington or maybe to Hawaii. I would really like to go to Germany or Italy, but my husband doesn't want to go out of the country.

The gas situation does suck. My Dad and sister live 30 minutres away, and my daughter lives about 45 minutes away. I'm thankful that my son lives really close. I love Vegas, and would like to go back. We had a great time. The Freemont Street Experience is awesome. I think your daughter would love it. Weight limitations really stink. We can't do this or that because of it. But we will! Going out of the country is a scary proposition lately. It doesn't matter where you go, people hate Americans. At least I would be afraid.... but I'm afraid of a lot of things. lol

Aww thanks. I feel like I don't have enough time for anything anymore. I get 4-5 hours of sleep every night. I'm exhausted!!! Lately we have been out shopping for a second car which has taken all day and taken me away from other things I have to do. I'm not sure if buying a car here is better or waiting until we get to California. I don't want to have to drive two vehicles when we move, but I don't want to pay more for a car in California. Moving is stressful :(

I know how you feel. Moving is a major stressor. And with all the other stuff you have going on... I can't imagine. I hadn't thought that buying a car in California would be any different than anywhere else. But then, I've never been to California. Good luck.

Awesome! And some really good information there too. :-) I'm glad you're pumped!

Linda

I feel so much better after my fill. I'm down 2 pounds and I'm at 255. I feel full for the most part of the day, but the. In the evening I was hungry, but I just stuck with the shakes. I think my next fill will keep me pretty full all the time and my portions will be less. I need to grocery shop today so I think I will do shakes and then start back eating tomorrow. I think I will be able to eat less and feel full. I'm ready for the weight to start melting off again.

Yes my doctor is very strict he likes to have everything under control he says that way he knows you are going to succeed . He even gives his patients his personal cellphone number for emergencies if you need him. I like that about him . He has a high success rate and its because how strict but also friendly he is. I'm glad I chose him

Well... I don't know what to say about you finding sisters! What a shocker! I wish the one I have was closer to me.

I'm an emotional eater too. My mom was that way as well' date=' and my sister, too. The problem with Mom being that way is that she never ever taught me the right way to eat. Always for dinner we had a meat, a starch, a vegetable, a piece of bread and butter, and a dessert. We always had to clean our plates, too. Sometimes I'd sit there for hours. Then it was nothing to eat a big bowl of ice cream or an entire bag of chips while watching TV. Do your feelings hurt? Here. Eat. Bad day at school? Here. Eat. Is it Tuesday? Here. Eat. I've been trying to educate myself on what to eat and when to eat. It isn't easy undoing 50 years of crazy.

I'm so glad to hear you don't have to take meds for your diabetes! That in itself is enough to have it done! I'm hoping that my blood pressure comes down. I don't know if it does anything for cholesterol or trigs. I'm pretty sure it doesn't cure bipolar. lol But on the other hand, I do know I'll *feel* better.

Linda[/quote']

Definitely a shocker about my half sisters.

My mom was never home when I was a kid. She stopped cooking when I was 7. She was working two to three jobs at a time and was hardly home to raise us or even cook. We would eat a lot of frozen meals. I had to learn how to cook on my own, which I am still learning. I know my mom just tried to do the best she could and had to work to pay for everything, but it really sucks that she was not there. Till this day she still works two jobs. I gained my weight with my first pregnancy and then after started to lose it since I was active and then I became pregnant with again and stayed the same weight until after the birth when my now ex husband became emotionally abusive. He would call me fat every day and back then I weighed 150, he would say that I disgust him and no one else would ever want me. Boy was he wrong, I have a wonderful husband now. I still feel emotionally messed up from my first marriage and I'm trying to feel better about myself, but it's hard to break the 11 years I had spent with him and all the hurt and pain he caused.

It's so nice to be off my meds and have normal blood sugar levels. Without the surgery I think I would have had serious complications with my diabetes, because I was still eating a lot of high sugar stuff. Having to do the pre op diet and getting the surgery has helped me change with cutting sugar out of my diet. The surgery will definitely help with your cholesterol and trigs. It may not cure your bipolar, but it can help since you will feel better physically and emotionally with the weight loss.

My grandkids cry because they don't want to leave. lol Even the 11 year old. Tickles my innards. The craft/computer room is covered with their artwork. Its cheap wallpaper' date=' and I don't have to paint! My daughter-in-law is a stay at home mom, and does tons of stuff with the kids. She starts them really early. They learned to write their names by using pudding on the table and using their fingers. She's full of really great ideas. On of the favorites is a sand and Water table outside. She doesn't care if they get really messy or the house gets covered in flour. I admire that. I'm a bit OCD myself, and I HAVE to have organized stuff going on.

I'm sure I'll get a folder with information when I go to that class. I'm hoping it has some of the stuff you mentioned in it. I like to be prepared to the nth degree. I've already started looking at Protein Drinks and thinking about *soft* foods I'll be able to eat. A steak in a blender sounds wonderful! I'm going to look at that scale you mentioned. It'll be nice to have that bit of technology that I don't have to think about. When I cook, I don't really use recipes. I make stuff up. Sometimes I'll dream of recipies. lol But when I make them, they turn out well. I think its great that you have walking partners. I know I have to start slow. Maybe I'll get an ipod or something. Maybe download books to listen to.

Linda[/quote']

That's so sweet. You seem like a wonderful grandma and mom. Your daughter in law has some great ideas, I'm going to try that pudding one with my son.

Your already doing a great job preparing. I didn't really start preparing myself and all my stuff until I was approved by my insurance. I mean I read things and went to the dietician, but that was about it until I was approved. They say no steak until after surgery when you move to solid whole foods and then you have to chew chew chew. I was scared to eat steak, but when I did it was fine since I chewed it until there was no more chewing to be done...lol...my jaw was killing me. If you get that scale tell me how it works, I think I'm going to wait until we move to go get it. I use recipes and make up stuff to. When I was pregnant with my son I craved so many foods that I learned how to make them myself at home, so it would be cheaper than eating out and healthier.

Whoops I forgot to finish my post before I sent it.

Maybe when you have your grand kids you can take them for a walk with you. An iPod is a good idea, you can listen to books or comedy if you like that. I remember being at work typing all day and I would get tired and bored so I would put on my headphones and put the comedy channel on and it would wake me up and make me feel in a better mood.

Well that's good that your son is close an your daughter is not to far. If you ever come to Vegas or my way it would be nice to meet up. Is Freemont Street where downtown Las Vegas is? Weight limitations really suck. I want to be able to ride dumbo with my son just like I did with my daughters at Disneyland. I'm afraid I will be turned away and my son hates going on rides by himself, I know my husband or girls can go with him, but I want to share those moments with him to. I'm afraid to go somewhere new, but I don't want that to keep me from seeing parts of the world. I would have to take my Xanax and have a few drinks to get through the plane ride, but other than that I think it would be nice.

A lot of cars are priced more in California and have way more miles. I think a lot of the stress will be gone once I move. I hope after moving everything just falls in place.

I think that's wonderful that your doctor cares so much and is friendly. My doctor is a good doctor at what he does, but I don't like how he is always in a hurry and trying to rush out the door. If you don't mind me asking, how much weight have you lost so far?

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

      3. Doughgurl

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

    • LeighaTR

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
