Has anyone had anxiety attacks after being banded? Prior to the mushie stage my last night of liquid which I was very excited for, in the middle of the night I was awaken from deep sleep by an anxiety attack. I've never had this before. The next night fine then tonight after eating I was relaxing while watching a comedy show and suddenly my heart started racing and I went into a full blown attack. I'm calling the Dr on Monday but wanted to see if this may be common?

Definitely call the doctor. I was banded 12/28 and never have had an anxiety attack. Good luck!

Are you taking any new medications or vitamines--even natural stuff? You could be having a reaction to a new substance.

Are you sure it was an anxiety attack? How are your blood glucose levels?

I haven't had a full blown panic attack since being banded, but I have had some racing heart episodes. Especially when waking up in the morning. I'm going to keep an eye on it for a few more days, because last night I transitioned from mushy/soft food to ground turkey; thus starting myself back on good old animal Protein (yeah!). Interestingly, this morning I didn't have the same racing that I've had over the past weeks since surgery. I don't know if there is a correlation, but generally I'm not one who does well on a vegetarian type of diet. My body requires some sort of meat Protein, whether it be fish, chicken, beef, etc. So I'm thinking that possibly the racing has been a blood sugar issue. I don't really know, but I will watch over the next few days, as this type of protein is added back.

My other thought on the panic attacks, is that possibly there is a lot of underlying fear with this life change. It's huge! I don't know......just throwing out some ideas. I have a lot of underlying fear with this, especially when I read some of the posts on this site. I'm happy on one hand, then freaked out that this thing might bite me in the ass at a later date. It's a lot to take on, physically and emotionally.

Now....with ALL that being said, I think you should call your doctor. Whatever the collective "our" experiences are, everyone has individual issues; health and otherwise. It's best that your doctor rule out anything more serious. And I hope for your sake that the panic attacks don't continue. I know how HORRIBLE and out of control they feel. The worst!

I have an anxiety disorder. I did notice an increase in anxiety for a week or so following surgery. It was a major life change. So, I expected that there would be more anxiety following it. I am on Buspar for anxiety and just made sure I took my medication regularly. Is it possible that you had an undiagnosed anxiety issue prior to surgery? I haven't had a full blown attack in a while. However, I know the symptoms and take measures to relax when those symptoms appear.

I think we all have a tendency of thinking everyone is in perfect health and taking no medication when we try to someone. What meds are you taking? anything for anxiety? diebets? heart? anxiety shouldn't wake you from a sleep I wouldn't think. Let us know what the doctor says it could be so many things just the less food will change your body's reaction.

The Doctor believes it may have been an electrolyte imbalance. But says since it happened during the night could be my sub conscience dealing with things I am not i.e....change! I haven't had anymore so that's a good thing.

I'm so glad someone brought this up. I have an anxiety disorder, and after being banded, my anxiety has certainly increased. The racing heartbeat I don't experience too often, but often right before I go to sleep, I'll have anxiety about the band...ugh. hope u feel better.

I am doing much better but it still occurs from time to time. I think because I can't see what's inside bugs the most. I'm very visual so not seeing if things are good that's making me nuts I can assume all is good though since I'm not having other issues. I hope yours gets better too!!! It's scary when it happens

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
