Just when I thought my band was too loose or had slipped, I got stuck this morning eating an egg salad sandwich. It was very moist, so I was kind of surprised! Probably eating too fast on my way out the door! I do have a question though. If I can drink water pretty fast, is the band too loose? There was a time when I could feel the cold water waiting to go down if I drank too fast, but no more! What is normal, or is there really no normal?

I can only eat toasted bread or hard breads. I pretty much stay away from all breads!

My band is not too loose and I can guzzle water unless its very cold. I however could never eat a sandwich of any kind.

I can guzzle water as well. I do wait before drinking whenever I eat. As for breads I can't do sandwiches well at all. I can eat a small amount of pizza occasionally. No cake whatsoever. For the most part, I try not to eat bread at all.

My doctor told me no bread, rice or pasta so, I have stayed away from it. He said that those things can get stuck and sometimes would be stuck bad enough that he would have to go back in surgically and retrieve whatever was stuck. I really don't want to have to have more surgery.

Thanks guys! While reading your posts I realized that the bread I ate was the first untoasted bread I'd had since surgery! Won't do that again! And glad to know that being able to chug water is normal. When you're thirsty, you're thirsty right! Sips just don't cut it!

I have a friend who has had her band in for 2 months now and she is able to eat anything she wants as long as she chews it well and takes small bites. However she says she cant eat much at once though. So I am gonna assume it will be different for everyone.

In my opinion, he's just trying to scare you. If something gets really stuck, they empty out the band completely and it passes through. I know this because I had the very unpleasant experience myself. I would bet that no one on here has ever had to have something surgically removed- ask around.

I would have thought the same thing if I did not know of two people personally, who had to have something retrieved that was stuck. on one,they did an unfill and that did not help so, her doctor had to go in and retrieve it. It was a dinner roll she had eaten. The way it was explained to me was that bread and pasta swells and can swell enough to cover the hole enough that it will not pass through, even with an unfill. I just honestly don't want to risk it.

never heard of that. I was told I can eat anything and everything I want but choose wisely and I do. I stay away from sandwiches unless I make it myself and then I do grill the bread. Burgers-no rolls anymore. I do eat brown rice, pasta and pizza and wonderful restaurant breads-my down fall. If I am too strict, I will fail because that has happened to me many times before. You have to listen to your doctor.
