Hoping to be a lap band candidate soon

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I'm in the early stages of the process, waiting for my MD to write me a letter of medical necessity so I can bring it with me to the seminar April 4th. Can anyone tell me typically how long the whole process takes from waiting for insurance approval to being on the table? I know generally it's different for every situation but looking to get a ball park idea. I'm so anxious to see if I will be able to get this surgery or not.

Yep, every ins. is different. In my case 6mths, which I was disappointed. In the long run, it was the best thing that ever happened. It gave me 6mths to prepare, by educating myself on what banding was all about.

I thank my lucky stars for finding LBT.com, where I receive the best education available.

Every practice seems to have different processes. Plan on 6 months and hope to be surprised!

If I remember right I believe my whole process took 4 months from start to finish. That included three months of hoop jumping and another month of waiting for a surgery date. Six months seems pretty common but you may get lucky and get yours done in less like I did. By the way I have BCBS federal.

Mine from start to finish was about 9 weeks long. I hurried up and did all the tests for the surgeon, attended 2 seminars and the shrink MD. Then I started liquid dieting with a salad at dinner 5 weeks prior to a possible lapband date. The rest has been relatively easy.

Best wishes

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
