Is it weird I had to take painkillers for a few days after my Second fill? I have about 5 cc in my band now were doing the micro fill .8cc at a time. She said my first fill that I have 3 and a little bit in it already. I had heard from alot of people on here that your band is empty until your first fill but she said that is absolutely not true!

Some doctors choose to put in a small fill during surgery and others do not. My doctor did not put any in my band during surgery.

Also, I can't imagine needing painkillers after a fill. I have absolutely no pain after fills. I haven't had pain meds since a day or two after surgery.

I have heard of instances where an anti-anxiety drug was needed prior to the fill, but no pain meds to my knowledge.

I was told by my doctor that the lap band has or had a little already in it but I have not been able to verify that anywhere so it is probalby wrong. Anyway, everyone id different. I dont know anyone that needed to take pain pills because of a fill. I hope you are on liquids for a couple days. Best of luck .

My doctor told me on my post op visit that he pre-fills most of his bands a bit as to not allow the band to slip any after surgery. Now he is slowed down on big fills and is "tweaking" in towards a final fill for me soon. He wants me to only lose no more than 2 pounds a week so I can continue to eat properly. He doesn't like big losses and if I do this, there is defintely NO fill that visit.

I still go to my dietitian's weight support group meeting once each month and we all discuss our weight loss or "gain" for some. I feel that when I am around other people who have similar weight problems I learn from them and share the information and food choices. This has been a great help in my post surgery continuance of weight control. I'm lucky to have the opportunity.

Best wishes and Keep the Faith

Some surgeons do put a slight fill in when they put the lapband into place. I have never heard of pain meds after a fill. My surgeon, and others, recommends a day or 2 of liquids. Mine says 2 days clear and 2 days full liquids. you will be swollen after a fill, and liquids make it easier to ease the swelling.

Definitely do liquids for at least 24 hours after a fill. If your doctor hasn't already told you that, I'd wonder why. Every doctor has different recommendations of how to do things band-wise, but liquids right after a fill is very consistent!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
