I had my surgery March 1 and was told when I calls the office today that I wouldn't be getting a fill until April 16th!!! OMG! I am not as hungry as I use to be but I worry because I do not fill any different, like never even got the lap band. Also I have only lost 13lbs. Do y'all think that's pretty normal. I see lots of people on here at the same place as me losing in the 20's. I have exercised the last two weeks, drink 64oz of Water, and eat right.

Five to six weeks for first fill is what i was told. Don't compare yourself to others. Slow and steady is healthy. Not a race but a life change. Remember first six weeks is for healing.

I lost 12 lbs the first two weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. You're normal by my standards.

How did you respond to no loss for those months? Did you gain muscle?

I was in "Bandster Hell" the entire time. That's where our band opening(stoma) is wide open and giving very little or no restriction. Hungry all the time. I started eating healthy which reduced my intake of bad calories and just having the band seemed to help me feel full with less food. I started exercising again so I probably kept pace with my fat loss by adding muscle. But, once I had my 4th fill my weight loss journey accelerated.

I was banded on 2/20. I went for a check up yesterday and was told that any weight loss after surgery is good but not always the case. Eating nothing but liquids makes your metabolism drop and your body will store everything. I am fortunate as I lost 23 lbs since surgery, but I am at the gym 4x a week too. My first fill is in 2 weeks. Dr told me that my band won't start working until then, thats when the weight will really come off. Give it time, it's important to heal. Stay committed and follow instructions. It will happen for you.

I was banded on 2/28/13 and I did lose 20 lbs the first 2 weeks, but I haven't lost any for a week. I think 13 lbs is great. I got my first fill yesterday. I did have restriction before and I wasn't hungry so that probably helped me. I exercise 5-6 days a week. I think when you are exercising that makes you start gaining muscle, but you may be dropping inches still. You are doing great and like someone said don't compare yourself to others. I have the same problem sometimes and that will make you discouraged. Slow and steady wins the race. Good Luck!

You're more than fortunate....You are DEDICATED to a healthier life! You're listening to your doc, exercising as you can, and giving it time. Until you get to proper restriction, and that varies by person, it's nothing more than a diet and desire to become healthier. Hopefully, your doctor will progress you to proper restriction before you lose that commitment. Thats where I think a big difference is between successful and non-successful band patients. Especially early on. CONGRATS to you and your continued success! :)

You hit the nail on the head! That's what I need to wrap my head around (slow and steady). I want to lose slowly(mentally) so I can gain my muscle and tone and hopefully reduce the need for tucks and lifts. But my vanity wants to lose quickly so I can get a makeover lol.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
