I go Wednesday to get my first fill. I hope that it helps. It is really frustrating, but I am sure that it will get going again soon. I guess after losing 20 lbs (water or not) I got my hopes up that I would lose some more. I know that is unrealistic though. I am hoping that I can reach my goal by my 10 yr anniversary this September 19th. My hubby and I are going to take a nice trip and I want to be looking good in my bikini by then..lol

Hey! I just posted somethin like this yesterday. I am going through the same thing! I got rebanded march 1st and i only lost 4lbs since my surgery! I am only taking in too about 600-700 calories a day so I just don't get it! Its fustrating and upsetting! I guess our body just needs to heal. I am going to my dr. This friday. I dont think he will fill me cause that will only be my 2nd day on liquids. But i am definitly going to ask him if its normal to only lose so little after surgery

If you are only taking 600-700 calories a day your body may be going into a starvation mode and it's hanging onto every calorie instead of burning them off. Ask your doctor but it sounds like you need to take in more calories so it to start burning off. Try a 1000 calorie diet. You need fuel to burn off those calories. I'm not a doctor but

I have been on enough diets to know that you need calories to burn off calories. When you start losing more weight you can reduce your intake of calories but right now 600-700 calories is very low.

ive lost 86lb over 5months,, i noticed that the weeks i didnt loose much were the weeks i didnt eat much, i have my three meals a day plus three Protein Shakes plus Snacks between meals, i seriously feel like im eating all day but u have to get ur calories in, to figure out how many calories ur body needs just to function without any exercise or daily activity divide ur weight by .453 then times that number by ten, thats the minimum u should consume, then add at least an extra 500 for daily activity, and to figure out ur Protein in take time ur weight by .8

Hi There. Where did you get the formula to divide by .453? I get over 5000 calories and I weigh 234 pounds. Just curious. Thanks

Out of curiosity, where did you come up with this formula? I did the math and it seemed to work out for me as far as colories. I just have never seen this before.

It actually came out really low for me, under 950 calories. Just a personal note. There are lots of websites, though, that let you input your weight, height, and activity level then calculate your BMR (base metabolic rate) for you. I just try to go with my nutritionist and surgeon's recommendations with mini tweaks based in what I've found works for me. Staying under 1000 for more than a week or so slows my loss.

I try to get more calories..but that is kinda impossible now. I can't seem to hold anymore than that. I did seem to get a little more in yesterday. I am going to try to get close to 1000 today. I feel full after a 1/2 cup of food right now. In the morning is definitely hard to get anything in. I try to drink my shake in the morning. This morning I got in some greek yogurt. To be honest with you I think some of my problem is that I have been constipated for about a week now...I know TMI..but finally got some relief so to speak. I have a hard time getting in 64 oz of h20 too. Anyone else have a hard time with Constipation and getting your Water in?

I have been having the Constipation and Water issue. I can barely drink 32 oz a day and that's hard to get in. Because my dr said not to drink 30 mins before a meal and at least an hour after. Sometimes I'm counting down the minutes to where I can drink, and I wanna guzzle the water, but I know that this isn't good for me to do. It's like I don't have enough time to drink inbetween my meals. Anyone have any advice how to get more water in?

I was also banded 2-28-13 and I was having trouble getting my fluids in until I started on soft foods last week. Before that I was losing 2.5 lbs a day. Since then it's been easy to get the Water in but I've actually gained back a few lbs. I'm not worried though since I've had to add extra holes to my belts and my tight pants are now my loose pants.

My favorite feature of MYFITNESSPAL is the graph. As long as today's weight is lower than 30 days ago I'm happy even when I do go up 5lbs from the day before.

Hi there,

Here are some things to consider:

1) You aren't that far out from your surgery date. You might still have some swelling and inflammation in your stomach/abdomen that is causing you to not be able to eat very many calories. That is okay for now.

2) It is VERY important that you eat at least 60 grams of Protein a day. If you can't get it in by food right now, you need to get it in by protein powder/drink. I strongly recommend Syntrax Nectar brand, although eventually you will find your magic/special Protein Drink brand. If you do not eat enough protein your body will cannabalize your muscle. This is bad as it reduces your metabolism. Sometimes protein powders/drinks will give you diarrhea (especially in the beginning). You might have to try a few brands to see what works for you. High quality whey protein is best for Protein Drinks.

3) When you are able to comfortably eat solids you should try to eat approximately 3 meals of 300 calories with a minimum of 20 grams of protein and two 100 calorie Snacks. You can eat 3 meals of 400 calories if you want with no snacks. Try to eat between 1000 - 1300 calories a day.

4) Try to eat as much of your protein as solid protein (fish, meat, ground meat). If you cannot do that, eat eggs, cottage cheese, greek yogurt (preferably without sugar).

5) Eating Breakfast, while it is often uncomfortable and no fun, will keep you from over-eating later in the day/at night. I know that over-eating seems pretty impossible to you now, but as you heal and lose, that band will losen up. Over-eating might become a possibility. If you cannot get solid protein down for breakfast, try greek yogurt or cottage cheese. If even that is impossible, have a protein drink mixed with some milk or yogurt.

6) Protein first, always. Protein is king. Then fruit/veggies. Then grains/carbs (yes, I know fruits and veggies are carbs too) if you still want them. The sooner you can ditch bread, rice, Pasta, Cereal, items made with flour the better.

7) Try really hard not to eat sugar. Right now you are in the honeymoon stage with your band. It is easy to do everything perfectly. As the days/years go by, you may find yourself having temptations. For me, and I only speak of personal experience, eating sugar causes my cravings to spiral out of control. And, sugar is never going to be nutritious. The sooner you can say goodbye to sugar, the better.

I hope this helps. I have lost by these rules and gained by ignoring them. One other thing, if you find that you are losing fast and your hair is thinning (that happened to me in the beginning) try Bariatric Advantage Biotin supplement. I hear it helps.

Best wishes and hugs.

-Hilary

For the Constipation, get some colase or generic colase at the drug store.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
