I am 4 days out. Wife and I took kids to the park. Still sore around the port and diaphragm area...normal?

Very normal, your body is gonna be sore for about a week, but not as bad as day 1& 2. If you are 4 days out by day 6 you should be noticeably less sore. Walking helps a lot with the soreness

How do I be a good dad and husband, being limited in my abilities? Feel so worthless. I truly don't know if she understands my limitations. Trying to be superman, and it ain't working!

No Superman acts needed. Just telll them you love them and you are doing this journey so you can spend more and more time with them. Today is transitory. They will remember the end results!

My stomach gurgled so much the first week....and sooooo much gas. Monday will be two weeks for me...it does go away for the most part!

90% sure it's gas. Gas X is your friend. Other than that, just keep moving, but take it easy!!!

I am 4 years out and my stomach still gurgles. Also have some patience and let your body heal. Your family loves you and hopefully they will support you. The m ore you move (walk) the better you will be. Stay strong!

You're still healing, you are going to be sore a bit longer, keep active as you're doing and walking that helps so much with recovery.

Why don't you and your wife sit down and have a heart to heart tell her how you feel, you've made a huge step being banded and now it's just going to take time to work it, it's not going to happen overnight. If you have little kids be careful lifting then at this stage. The soreness, gurgling, emotional up and downs are all normal at this stage, as each day goes by things will get better and easier and before you know it six months has gone by and you're well on your way to becoming the superman.

Just hang in there and communicate with your spouse, that's what couples do.

Another suggestion if this hasn't happened already, why don't you have your wife go with you to your post op appointment. That way she will be totally in the loop about what you are going through and what you are and will be feeling for months to come. As everyone else has said, take it is, you're not superman although no one is, walk a lot and take the Gas X strips. Congratulations on the new you. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
