The place that I feel full has changed....after almost 2 years!

Recommended Posts

When I first got my band and for almost 2 years after that, the feeling of "being full" was in my upper chest, just below my throat. I didn't like to feel it there, but assumed that is where it would be forever since getting banded. But, several months ago, I started feeling full below my chest, right at my diaphragm. Has this happened to others? Where do you feel the fullness? Most of my fills have been done under fluoroscopy and the doctor said it is still in position. So if my band didn't move, why did the feeling change? It just concerns me.

That's weird. I have never heard of this before. I have always felt full/satisfied etc. in my abdominal area. If you are feeling full further up, it sounds to me as though your food isn't going down as it should. Do you think your band is too tight thus preventing your food to go down properly?

First, feeling full is not the feeling you should be looking for? Feeling satisfied with less food is the goal.

But, I feel full just as before if I overeat. In my stomach if I over indulge.

I have never felt anything in my throat. When I get stuck, it's right under my diaphragm and it only takes 2 bites eaten too fast, too big or not chewed well enough for this to happen.

Your pouch should only hold a few bites of food before it passes the food into your lower stomach. Just look at any body organ illustration and the stomach is well below your diaphragm. What you're feeling is quite odd and I have no explanation if your doctor has seen your stomach via fluoroscopy and is fine with what he sees?

Okay, well I don't feel full/satisfied in my chest anymore. I did for a long time. I would feel it right in the middle of my upper chest. If I got something stuck, it was in my chest. I thought THAT was normal. Now, I guess I feel the "normal" place that others feel. I'm glad to hear that where I feel it now is where others feel it. I was just curious since it changed, for some unknown reason.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
