Woot! Congrats Amsderb! I know you're psyched now. Glad to hear the insurance it taking care of it for you. That's always such a huge concern. Do you have a pre-op diet? I was on clear sugar free liquids plus 3 Protein Shakes a day for two weeks. It was so hard but in the long run I'm so glad I did it. Shrunk my liver up well so they had an easier time with the surgery plus I know I lost a good bit of weight before they even put the band in. Keep us all informed on how your journey is going.

I'm so excited that I have my 6 week post op appointment on the 1st. Can't wait to see how much more I've lost.

Hey Scorpioqt! Welcome to the group. Who's your doctor? Mine was in Mesa too. I went thru Banner Gateway Bariatric and I had Dr. Schuster. Loved him and the whole office.

Good Luck with your 6 week post op!!!

Way to go! That day is coming up very fast. What are your plans for your next two months before the operation? Do you have any plans for anything before your date?

Hi! My plans are to keep exercising, follow the plan I have for eating...and not have last suppers...OK...I've blown that a few times so enough is enough!

I am a teacher so it will be crazy between now and then...and now

I just woke up with the dreaded allergy chest congestion...so I need to get HEALTHY!!! I have to practice my breathing in the funny blow spirometer and also they gave us a cd to practice relaxation...I could use some of that!

I know this list is all about me...of course I still have all my other duties as a Mom and wife...

Thanks for asking.....

Hello veterans,

Just a first timer browsing the pages. I have decided to have the surgery after endless research and pondering. I have met with two different offices and have decided to go with WLIA in Tempe. Does anyone have any experience with Dr. Orris and DeBarros?

Thanks

Hey Boston1

This is the first post I have ever done here. I had my surgery with WLIAZ on 2/11/08 and they have been nothing but great. They are with you every step of the way. Dr. Debarros performed my surgery and Dr. Orris was assisting on the surgery. From 2 weeks of pre-op diet to current date I am down 70 lbs. Still a lot more to go but WLIAZ will help you every step of the way. Dr. Debarros also has had the lap-band surgery done last year so he really knows what he is talking about.

Hello,

I have been with WLIA for about 2 months and everything I have evperienced is top notch. You are going to pay more. But they are wonderful. My insurance is CIgna-Health Partners. They are requireing that I go through a class to prepare me for Life after surgery. They ask me to do something or want to discuss something and I usually have already experienced it or considered due to the extensive program at WLIA. My phone coach said she is going to write their name down and if she gets az clients she will refer them. I really like Debarros. Great guy. I like his manner. Kind of tongue and check. Shoot from the hip. A real person. He had the lap May 07. Good Luck and let me know how things go.

Hey bandsters! It is so exciting to see that people are getting banded and losing weight. I was banded 2/22/08 and got my first fill on 4/3/08. I have lost 23 lbs so far (without a pre-op diet). The doctors seem pleased but I know I need to up my workouts. I am going on a cruise in 3 weeks and haven't met my first goal. I wanted to hit onederland by that date. I have only lost 2 pounds in the last 3 1/2 weeks. I have been told to come back in for another fill asap so I will do that soon. Hopefully that will get me back on track. Anyway, I wanted to share something. I have been a major choco-holic for years. Yesterday I was cleaning out my pantry and found some Ghirardelli chocolate chips. I ate a couple and they just didn't taste the same!!! Yippee!! I have been praying for this! I know chocolate goes down just fine and that concerned me so you can imagine my elation when it was no big deal. Normally, I would have eaten half a bag or the whole thing. I would definitely call that a non-scale victory. Also, I seem to be motivated by the fact that word got out about my WLS and I feel that I need to prove to everyone that this was worth it and the most wonderful thing I could have ever done. I don't want to disappoint my husband or myself either. My carpel tunnel has already gotten better, hey, so have my knees! Now if I can just get to my sweet spot, I will be even more in love with my band.

I don't know about you but I could use a Phx Bandsters Meeting soon.

I can't wait to hear your motivation or NSV's.

Thanks!

Oh my goodness, if you need a fill go get one! You don't have to wait for fill day, they do them Mon-Sat! Dr. Campos does them, soon Dr. Lopez will be doing them.

I don't know if anyone else that is going for a fill but I can ask around if you wish.

Hi there, Just putting in my experience. I had my band done March 19 by Dr. Terry Simpson. So far my exprience has been very good. He is incredibally accessible. He makes himself available though his personal email at all times. I called the office with a concern the other day and was put through immediately to the Dr. Himself. He is also a very nice man. Just my thoughts.

Just found the AZ bandsters on the forum. Can't beieve I hadn't seen it. I have my surgery date of May 23. It seems unreal that it is finally happening. Right now I have no pre-op diet but that may change. Any suggestions that you would suggest for after surgery? Anything you wish you had known? Count down time.:welldoneclap:

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
