Is it normal to be weak while on stage 1 diet?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on 2/28 and sticking to my stage 1 diet foods. I also drink 3 Protein Shakes a day. Is it normal to feel weak or light headed during this stage?

First off, make sure you are drinking enough. Dehydration can make you lightheaded.

Secondly, are you pulling in enough calories? I found that during my stage 1 period, I would feel fine, until I exerted myself in the lest, at which time, I would become light headed and shaky. But I was having a hard time getting 500 calories a day in, and my body just wouldn't handle that.

I have had some trouble getting all my fluids in. I know I am not getting 64oz..I get around 40-50 in. Maybe I just need to take it a little more slow and try to rest more. I have been kinda stir crazy for the past 2 days. I thought it might be the lack of sugar, since I was use to eating more carbs. Thanks for input.

I had surgery on 2/19. I felt light-headed usually upon waking in the morning. Later in the day, I felt tired and week. It didn't last very long, just the first week. Hang in there!

I was the same way and my doctor said to drink more. But again I barely had any calories. Just take it easy and keep drinking

I started feeling better yesterday. Guess my body was just getting used to the new diet.

I had surgery on 2/20. I am ok with the 500 calories but get tired very easily. I am hoping to get to the gym today to just do some walking on the treadmill. I am hoping it gives me more energy.

I'm day 5 post op and l'm not feeling tired or weak. I'm getting 40 to 64o z. of Clear liquids in a day but only about 300 calories (and that requires a lot of effort but I'm trying to get the protien).

I can perform normal activities pretty easily but my incisions start to ache when i breathe after 7 minutes of walking so I've been walking 7 minutes 5 times a day and plan to increase that amount each week until I can try running again at week 6.

I assume the difference is in how easily our bodies are Abe to break down our fat stores for the calories we need since I was relatively active before surgery but still have over a hundred and fifty lbs of excess weight it appears my body is fully prepared to tap those fat reserves now that the food intake is reduced and my satiation response is still being triggered.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
