To the ones that have lost 80-100lbs or more

Recommended Posts

I am curious to know if anyone that has lost 80 - 100 lbs or more not had to have cosmetic surgery? Like if your skin went back into place? lol You know what i mean!

Although I haven't done it yet, I am certainly planning on it. I am definitely going to have a breast reduction (this was something I would have eventually had even if I hadn't lost the weight) and then a Tummy Tuck and arm tuck. I'll bypass the lyposuction and all that for now. What I hate the most is the "apron" that I have around my hips. It drives me crazy and I am very self conscious about it, especially since it keeps me from moving down another size in bottoms.

But this is my own vanity and my own body. I think that younger people may have better luck with having their skin go back but for the most part, I don't think that anyone can expect not to have any sagging skin with that amount of weight loss. There are other factors too, including the fact that I had a c-section so that hasn't helped either.

Hope that helps and good luck!

I am quite certain that if I were to explore plastic surgery I'd find a surgeon happy to help me. But I personally don't feel that any is necessary. Other people with the exact same skin might very well think it is.

Only time will tell how you feel about the body you have after weight loss. My issues are fairly minor, I think, with my arms and boobs being the main problems. But these are easily camouflaged with clothing; the idea of surgery that will replace hanging skin with scars is not at all appealing to me.

Also, I haven't lost all the weight I "should." One thing that's keeping me happily here is the idea that more weight off would just mean MORE loose skin issues. I don't want to need surgery, and if I go any further I think I'd be less happy with the way I look, not more.

So it's all a balancing act, and your experience will be uniquely yours.

Ditto everything Mellissalee said.

My eyes and neck are driving me crazy, all this sagging skin. I look tired and have a hard time putting on simple eyeliner...age does have alot to do with it, but i don't have as much fat pushing out the wrinkles:tired, Ya right. I wish my skin would go back into place.... And that muffin waist has got to go.

I'm in research for PS and I'm saving money for the work, I want it all done by xmas.

I have lost 90 pounds. My goal is to lose another 15 or 20. I don't know if PS is a financial possibility, but I would love to have my arms, tummy, boobs and thighs done.

I was 56 when I was banded and I agree...us old ladies have more problem with saggy, baggy skin than you young girls do.

Hi,

I needed plastic surgery despite the fact I exercised 4 times a week. I lost over 150 lbs though and with my clothes on, you couldnt tell , but when they were off...... My stomach was down to pubis aread and it looked gross. I had 4 lbs of stomach cut off with TT and several pounds of skin cut off my thighs with medial thighplasty. I am much happier both with the physical appearance of a flat tummy and not having to worry about hanging pannus, odor problems and infected skin between my thighs. Things are much better in that respect.

Wow Babs! You're an inspiration. My Questions is: did your insurance pay for any of it? I know that they will pay for my breast reduction (after almost 120# I"m still a 40H!) and I'm hoping that we can throw a lift in for good measure. I've also heard that if you can prove a medical necessity for the TT i.e. sores, etc. in the folded area, strain on your back, that some insurances will pay for that as well.

I'm still waiting to lose about 25 more before I consider the reduction and I would like to be as close to my goal before I get any other cosmetic stuff done.

My breast reduction is a necessity at this point. I woke up at teh age of 13 with 36DDD boobs and have only gone up from there so I've had a good 20+ years of strain on my back and shoulders and I'm just ready for a little relief finally. To be able to sleep on my stomach, to buy a bra that doesn't cost me a fortune and have to be ordered from a catalog, and gosh darnit, to be able to walk around the house without a bra for the first time in my adult life. And I am willing to trade the scars for the skin because I figure, if I'm going to lose almost 200# (my goal) then gosh darnit, I'm gonna go for the gold! Because it's only going downhill (pun intended) as we get older so I'd like to start out with a cleaner (and tighter) slate!:(

I still want to lose at least 30 pounds more. I will definitely need plastic surgery-tummy tuck, thigh lift, arms, boob lift. The only one I will probably do though is the Tummy Tuck because of money and I'll be lucky to afford that.;)

Not having it, bought a sporty convertable instead with the money I was saving for PS.

I feel comfortable in my body and although there are areas of loose skin, they are not overly bad and can be hiddne with clothing. I have no aspirations of becoming a swimsuit model, my husband loves me for who I am, who cares if I have lose skin. I'll keep my saggy skin and look hot driving around in my new car. They cant see whats under my clothes and what they dont know cant hurt them.

I've lost 80lbs, but I still have a long way to go. So far the only thing that is bothering me are my boobs. Everything else is shrinking up nicely. I'm not saying I'll be perfect, but so far I am pleasantly suprised. The boobs irritate me though. I have pretty good genes on both sides of the family so I'm hoping that everything will keep shrinking! I really moisturize too. I use Oil Of Olay body wash with shea butter & Skin So Soft. I don't know if it is really helping, but somthing sure is.

Hi Melissa,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you with an answer. My insurance paid about 2/3 of the bill. I paid a third. They really dont pay the surgeons much, so I paid the difference there. They covered my 4 day hospital stay, anesthesiologist, etc.. The surgeon got 1000 for the panniculectomy (I paid 4750) and only 1100 for the thightplasty and the assistant surgeon got something like 2000 total which I think is appalling. I negotiated all this with my surgeon pre op. Since my insurance only wanted to pay for a panniculectomy, I covered the difference for the full TT. I am glad I did this. My stomach looks great!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
