Need some feedback about daily diet

Recommended Posts

I was banded 1/29/13, I did the 2 week pre op liquid diet and as of today I have lost 26 lbs. I can't seem to get enough calories or Protein in. I am getting around 400 calories a day and maybe 40 grams of protein. I work out 5 days a week. I have plenty of energy and I feel great but I'm worried this isn't enough.

Here is an example of my daily food:

3 oz of eggs in the morning

3 oz of tuna with low cal mayo for lunch

3-4 oz of chicken for dinner

I don't fee like eating much more. Does anyone have suggestions?

I'm no doctor or nutritionist but 400 calories a day is way too little.

I see no veggies and no fruit in your daily menu. That would be the first place I'd try to start adding in some calories. I also see no dairy, which is another food group you definitely need for Calcium (unless you're lactose intolerant). Adding a cup of skim milk or a Greek yogurt would be great.

I would take your food logs into your nutritionist, they'd be the best person to help you adjust your daily routine.

Best wishes.

I agree with Missy. You are missing the fruits, veggies & dairy in your diet. Definitely not balances in my opinion.

You may feel great now, but that won't last! You can not survive off 400 calories a day with or without excersice! Remember that your goal is to be healthier. Thinner is the result! You have to have a balanced diet to be healthy! I agree with both of the ladies above! You are missing EVERY food group except protien! And a healthy body needs more than just protien to survive! Good luck! Eat a balanced diet!

You have to eat better then that. I am sure that your doctor did not prescribe that diet alone as none would. You need fats, good carbs (fruit and vegetables), dairy, whole grains or you are going to just end up being one mess. If you are exercising that much then you need to stop only eating 400 calories a day. Your weight loss will stop with that much exercise and so little food because it will try to hold on to everything it has. You have to have a balance and only eating Protein is going to basically do a number on your kidneys because you are not giving your body anything else. I would seriously sit down with your nutritionist and your doctor because this in no way can be your post op diet prescribed by your doctor.

In my opinon you should keep tracking your foods and then meet with an nutritionist that works with your doctor.

You should still be in the soft food stage. Try mashed potatoes, refried Beans, yogurt, cottage cheese, apple sauce, soft cooked veggies, and oatmeal to name a few.

Protein Shakes, add Peanut Butter. Cottage cheese and pineapple. Unjury makes a chicken Soup flavored Protein that's pretty good. Gotta eat at least 1000a day, 1200 if u work out, u will stop losing if u don't.

Thanks everyone. I did email my nutrionalist on Friday but have not heard from her. I just went and cooked some veggies to take with my tuna tomorrow. I just finished some SF pudding with Protein Powder added. I bought some string cheese and oatmeal as well. I appreciate the feedback.

During the soft food stage I struggled with same issue. I sliced up bananas and froze them. I could then use one frozen banana with Peanut Butter in a blender with skim milk. The frozen banana will give you the texture of a shake and you end up with fruit, dairy and Protein plus some needed calories. Speaking with nutritionist is a must!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
