Newbie banded 2/13

Recommended Posts

Hello 24yr female newly banded 2/13.. Did great in the hospital, but my first full day at home was very challenging. I felt no restriction but had a hard time drinking liquids. Had no pains with the lower incisions but the top and side one i had mild pain. but the pain im in now is all due to the gas, been taking my meds, walking, drinking more fluids. Oh i also have really bad dry mouth and i know TMI- diarrhea. Trying a heating pad now. Oh never have i wanted to burp/fart so much in my life lol!!! Attached is my stomach very bloated and swollen a few days ago but the bloating and swelling looks better today

Really don't need the picture to know that you are perfectly normal for this stage. Walking helps the gas. Try swinging your arms while you walk. Liquids in equals liquids out unfortunately. My doc allowed imodium if it gets too bad. In a few days this will all be behind you! Hang in there!

Hang in there!! I ate lots of popsicles to help the dry mouth. Also to help the gas and bloating I took a couple of chewable antiacids (you can use liquids too) washed it down with a dr. pepper and took a like a 30 minute nap and finally got relief maybe that'll help you cause nothing else seemed to help me at that time lol wishing you a speedy recovery!!

My surgeon and nutrionist as well advised not to have carbonated drinks or sip through straws along with other stuff

Mine didn't advise against it but it's not something I drink normally it was just an idea to help get the gas out at that time and it was the only thing that worked for me!

My doctor sent me home with Zantac liquid and liquid Colace. I still use the Colace every day. Popsicles are great to have. Just remember sugar free.< /span> For gas pain I used a heating pad.

Good luck and welcome to the Band.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
