I was banded yesterday and this morning I'm so sore! Hurts to cough and I feel really really tight on the left said where I believe my port is! Is this normal?!? Any advice would be great!

Take your pain meds, keep hydrated, alternate walking with rest. Everyone has to go through this, it gets better fairly quickly

I'm 6 days postop and I am still somewhat sore. This is NORMAL I promise you! I was so sore for a few days.. yes, coughing and laughing were SO painful! Any movement was painful. This is ok. Just like the above post says, take your pain meds because it will take the edge off and stay hydrated. I had terrible gas pains and walking did help. Do what you can! I switched between sitting up in my bed and sitting in a chair to help. You'll get through this, don't you worry! Your port is sore because that incision is the main area where the band is inserted through (from what I've heard) and the port is in your muscle so any ab movements will move that a little. Just follow your doctors orders and give yourself time to heal and recover.

Best of luck and welcome to the other side! :)

Thank you for making me feel normal!!!! I can't wait to be able to start seeing results! I've had horrible gas pains in my chest and shoulders! I've found that walking and my heating pad help! I just wasn't expecting to be this sore!! Thank you for the advice!!! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
