Pulling sensation from port site/area

Recommended Posts

I am 4 days post-op & have been extremely happy with the way things have been going so far. I feel I am ready to venture out but I noticed that I often still "hold" my port area in supportive manner much of the time. It is not as painful as it was but has like a pulling feeling if not supported. I noticed if I am walking & not holding it that my shoulders are somewhat hunched forward like I am being pulled forward. I know the site will be sore for awhile & that this area also includes the muscle the port was sewn to & it's going to take awhile to heal, I just don't want to look like a idiot (in public) holding the area all the time.

I also had that for about a month post op.I walked around holding my port area constantly. My doctor told me I could wear a compression garment for support, I only ended up using it when I exercised but it helped alot. I gave me alot of support but I found it uncomfortable to sit with it on. It may be too soon for you to do this with your bandages and healing tho

I have a similar issues. But first, I wanted to tell you that I'm 5 days post-op and I still hold my port site out of habit now. I do, however, have sensitivity and/or possible bloating above my port site right under my left breast. I'm not too too concerned but I slightly am. I do think, however, that it may be the tube that connects the band to the port. I'm going to mention it to my doctor tomorrow. Does anyone else have this issue?

I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op and yes port site was very tender and slower to heal. It is just now starting to feel better! Good luck!

I'm almost 3wks out from a port revision and I was telling my Dr how my port area swells up a lot and he said it was just Fluid that is part of the healing process.

Thanks, I figured it would be sensitive & slow to heal, its the only area I still have swelling. One thing is that I'm just concerned with what type of comments/questions I will receive if I continue to "hold" the area.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
