Anyone else losing weight very slowly or not at all like me?

Recommended Posts

I'm not usually a complainer, but, I just don't know what I may be doing wrong. I have read other peoples testimonies & they seem to be losing weight at a faster rate than me. I know everyone loses at their own pace & believe me I've always been a slower "loser" than everyone else. I'm just so afraid of failing my band. I was starting to have some health issues as a result of my obesity; so I don't want to fall back into old habits. I have spoken with my doctor & he assures me that I am doing everything correctly. I do exercise, get my proteinn, drink water(although I could probably increase that amount) & stick to my diet. But, still, I hover around the 340's.

Any suggestions? :(

What exercising are you doing? At 365 I started swimming. I highly recommend a waterproof mp3 player makes time go by a lot faster. Swimming or Water based exercise is very good for heavier people because you don't have the joint pain. Even at my heaviest I was able to do an hour a day 7 days a week. I've always been a slow loser so I feel your pain. Recently I Met with a specialist to discuss potential hormonal issues affecting my weight loss or lack thereof. Has your doctor done any blood tests to check hormones? My personal opinion is that my primary care physicians hasn't been that interested in looking into hormonal problems. Considering the significance effort I put into losing weight I think she needs to cut me some slack. Seems like her attitude is that I'm fat and I'm just looking for an excuse. To give you a point of reference at my highest I was at about 380 and now I'm down to about 215.

Girl!! 57 pounds in 4 months is nothing to complain about!! I lost slow in the beginning too. I would have to constantly tell myself....look where you would be at this moment had you not had the surgery, and that would always make me feel better. I just checked my book and at 4 months I was down 33.5 pounds. You are ahead of the game from where I was at!!!!

57/4=14.25lbs a month. 14,25/4=3.25lbs a week. That's a healthy weight loss. Slow and steady as she goes...hang in there...

I think that is above average. I was told 1-2 pounds a week. Everyone is different. The last two months have been very slow for me. I am 8 pounds from goal.

I know it's difficult because you're working really hard, but did you ever lose that amount of weight in such a short time before the band? :) Don't get discouraged!! You're doing great!

Your losing rate at a fine pace, although I totally understand why it feels like its coming off slowly. I have lost 50 lbs in 6 months and it seems like SO LITTLE! But truthfully, it really to helps to look back at how far you've come rather than looking ahead at how far you are from your goal

Thanks everyone. I tend to be my own worst critic so I sometimes forget that before the band, I would have been gaining weight. Thanks for the reminder!

The way I look at it is this....You're losing and not gaining :). Keep the the good work.

I think that as a bandster, we have all dealt with this same issue. Losing weight prior to the band was totally non existent for me. I could not lose a pound. Had my surgery Nov 2012 at my highest weight 225 lbs. Today 194lbs,that's 31 lbs in 3 months. I'm happy, because I made the right decision with the band, and so have you. You have done a marvelous job, keep it up. We all lose weight differently, but what matters the most is that you LOSE.

Yes, I feel the same way. I was banded on 12/21/12 and I'm down about 27 pounds. When I get down on myself, I think of where I would be without the band. I would still be 256, wearing clothes that were tight on me, and eating the crappy way I did before. I lost sooo much weight those first few weeks and I've totally plateued. But, sigh... it's ok. I've lost almost 3 10lb sacks of potatoes. And, even though I'm not losing, I'm not gaining either, so that's something.

Just know that we all go through Bandster hell, but girl... you've lost 57 pounds!! That's huge! Give yourself a hug... go on... I'll wait. We have to look at the big picture and the bright side. Looking back doesn't do anything but hurt.

You go girl!!

I had a few plateaus along the way, but I just kept at it. It's totally normal. I've lost 50lbs ...20 more until initial goal and 30 more to my "dream goal." Ha

I had surgery 2/13 Day of surgery 226. Came home 2 days later and i was 238!! Nearly fell over but i am sure its from all the saline going through my IV and how bloated and swollen i was. Slowly i see my weight getting back down today i was 228! Anyone else experience this? I know the weight will come off eventually! :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
