Throwing up with restrictive LapBand

Recommended Posts

I am very nauseated. My Realize Band has 9cc in an 11cc band. I have no idea what to expect. Will my band become displaced?.

I get nausiated very easily. Have thrown up 5 times since surgery (not realted to getting stuck - that's a different story all together). I had to go in for an ultrasound and barium swallow (x-ray video while drinking this stuff - watches it go through band, detects slips in action) to check and see if anything had slipped. Nothing had. Doc did a .2 unfill to make it less likely that I would slip if I vomit again.

He said that if I have a major vomiting insident, where I have a virus or thow up 2x in 24 hours, then I need to see him and have the barium swallow again.

He gave me a perscritption for Zofran, a medication that stops you from vomiting. It does not work for everyone, but does for me, if I take it right away. Makes me very sleepy right away though, so can't take it if I have to drive or function.

Maybe ask your doctor about zofran that you can keep on hand for emergencies - but ask for the kind that disolves. It's super miserable to try and swallow a pil when you're already about to puke.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
