is a little drainage from the incisions normal?

Recommended Posts

I do have a little bit of stuff leaking out, it looks like it's been there for day or so already, I still have the gauze covering it, should I take the gauze off? When I sneeze is it making the stitches open? (I was banded 3 days ago)

Call your doctor right away. Your incisions should not be draining. Best wishes!

I would call the doctor, my bandages are supposed to stay on and be clear (no visible staining) until they fall off in about a week. I would be worried about infection.

Hmmm...my doc warned me that when I left the hospital for the first few days when I moved it would cause some bleeding that would come through the tape over my stitches. It did and stopped after about 3-4 days. I just had to shower and keep it clean, otherwise I was warned ahead. I left the tape on per instructions. They said it would come off on it's own, but mine held on for dear life and the doc removed it at my 2 week post op visit. No issues here. But if your doc didn't say this was normal, then give him a call to double check. Definitely doesn't hurt to ask!

I never had any kind of leakage or draining. Talk to your doc and make him earn some of that money you threw at him.

Ok, thank you. I think it's mostly from surgery day, they told me I'm all clear to take a shower Sunday (today) I'm super excited, just can't remember I'd they told me to leave the tape on our not, but from what I just read, I think I do have to leave it. I'll try calling doc right now, but not sure they will answer, as today is Sunday.

My incisions were glued together so I didn't have any tape. Doc just told me not to stand directly in the stream of Water. I pat dried immediately upon finish.

Well before getting into the shower, I called the Dr, he said the tape will fall off by itself, and its ok to shower, let the soapy Water fall over the stitches to help keep them clean, I'm already taking an anti biotic, so I don't have to worry of infection! Yay! I will never take showers for granted again! Lol

I experienced a little leakage too and I'm two weeks post op. Only after showers. Just keep an eye on yourself.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
