Pre op diet: how much did you lose?

Recommended Posts

Hey all. I am scheduled to have my band put in Feb. 20th. Medical testing in the 8th and pre-op diet on the 13th when I have my last consultation. I was just wondering how much I can expect to lose more or less based on your alls experience. Was the liquid diet 2 weeks prior for you or one before and one after? What types of liquids did you drink?

I'm on my pre-op diet now, which is Atkins, not liquid. I've been on it for 11 of 14 days (surgery on the 5th) and I've lost 8lb. However, my starting weight was 198 , so that's about 4% so in all, not bad.

In the 6 month pre-surgery diet I lost 16lbs. And disqualified myself!!

But I was diagnosed with sleep apnea which got me back in.

In the 2 week liquid diet I lost a pound a day - 14 in 14, just like the surgeon said I would.

Good luck to you! :)

did not have to lose any weight before surgery. I did put myself on a diet and lost to much so was denied by my insurance so when I gained it back I was approved, crazy. Hugs

I was on a 2 week preop diet (3 shakes/2 Protein bars/unlimited veggies/3oz lean protein each day), and I lost 11lbs in that 2 weeks. I lost 30lbs total pre surgery.

I am on day 2 and I have already lost 5 pounds (which seems odd) I am having trouble getting in the calories my doctor wants me to mainly because I am so picky! My list of stuff I can have on my liquid diet is jello(sf) popsicles(sf) gum(sf) hot cocoa(diet) apple juice, broth(chicken or beef) and 60 to 80 grams of Protein a day! My problem is a don't like the broths due to they are all way to salty for me! I don't use salt or cook with salt at all!

I lost 34 pounds pre-op in preparing for the band. 20 pounds before I met the doctor and in the next 10 days I lost 14 pounds to get ready for surgery. Lots of liquids, Protein shakes and broths plus lots of exercise to get ready for surgery.

I should have band years ago. Best thing I've ever done.

Day 6 here. My diet is a 14 day 700 cal one, consisting of 3 oz Protein at Breakfast, 1 fruit, 1 nonfat dairy. lunch is a Protein, 2 cups veggies. Supper is a protein, 2 cups veggies. I can do Protein shakes rather than other sources of protein during the meals. And then of course I am supposed to drink a minimum of 64 ounces of Water, which can also include any sugarfree less than 15 calorie per serving flavor, such as crystal lite, chicken broth, etc. I didn't know they make diet hot chocolate. I wonder if that would be permissible on my diet.

Don't know my weight loss yet. Haven't been on the scale for a few days, but I do know I have lost a little. I almost don't want to know until the day of surgery so that I can be pleased when they tell me the amount. But then again, my doc requires at least 10 pounds or he won't do the surgery. Something about the liver needs to be shrunk or it puts the patients at risk. So I better find out soon so that I know if I'm losing enough.

Good luck to you. We can all do this!

Don't worry. I talked to another gal at my WLS clinic and and she lost 27 lbs in 6 days. She started at the same weight I did which was 275. I was actually worried I was going to lose too much on the pre op. Hello saggy butt! :-)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
