Need help with calories

Recommended Posts

I had my band last Jan 24. During the pre op and nutrition class, they told us to eat a minimum of 800 cal/day. I have been keeping a log of what I eat everyday and I am having difficulty getting that much calories in me. I am averaging 550 -650 cal per day. The Protein is about 60-70 grams/day. Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions on how to up my calorie intake. Thanks.

If you're not having any issues drinking, maybe a Protein Shake? You can get your calories to where you want them while increasing you Protein intake at the same time. Call your Dr/Nutritionist and ask them for suggestions as well.

I eat three half cup meals most days and I know I get more than that. What are you eating? It is kind of hard to answer without not knowing. Can you please post a day and we will look at it. Drinking usually is not the answer. I also agree you might want to take your meal diary to the nutritionist that works with your doctor.

What stage are you at? Knowing that will help. If still on liquids, I actually added whipping cream to broth a few times to get in some calories. Just make sure dairy is allowed. My doctor wasn't strict as compared to some.

Thanks everyone. I am still on high Protein full liquid diet I can have yogurt and cottage cheese. Today I had yogurt for Breakfast (160 cal, 13g protein), 10 oz Isopure (80 cal, 20g protein), 4 oz cottage cheese (120 cal, 11g protein), 10 oz isopure (80 cal, 20g protein), and 8 oz Protein Shake (120 cal, 21g protein). That is a total of 560 cal and 85g protein.

The cream really helped me. Four tbs is 200 calories. I would heat my broth and then add it and whisk to incorporate it.

great idea Tara. I will try that.

- By the way everyone there is an incredibly high Protein drink called Isopure. 40 grams per serving. The drink is clear and comes in flavors... the banana to me is the best, but the GNC salesperson says blueberry sells the best. they have a 150 calories... and zero carbs. - it is a GREAT way to get some calories in, lots of Protein and still hold the carbs down.

Sorry I guess I wasn't paying enough attention. Sounds like you are doing great. Don't worry so much about the calories yet. Most people are low in the beginning but once you get to solids it will all work out!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
