First social event tonight! YIKE!

Recommended Posts

I'm 9 days post-op and have my first social event tonight. I am petrified. Would decline but its a celebration for a friend and not about me.

My doc said I could start on mushies today but I'm staying with full liquid diet in fear of diarrhea tonight. The problem is that NONE of my friends know. None. I already set the stage and said the we could only stay for an hour but the only thing I can drink is Water there...unless I ask for juice box...which would be very weird.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If you don't want anyone to know, you could just say you're just getting over a stomach bug and don't want to risk upsetting your stomach now that it's finally calm again. Then no one would question why you're drinking Water.< /p>

Stick with water... dehydrated from the stomach bug, but did not want to disappoint your friend. It is likely no one will notice. We are much mor aware of our behavior than others. Good luck!

I'm 7 days post-op and none of my friends/family know either with the exception of my mom... my aunt passed away two weeks ago and we're having a huge memorial service with catered lunch... completly in the same boat and deciding how to avoid lunch time! haha... when i had my surgery, i had a hernia fixed as well so i just tell everyone im recovering from that on a strict diet.... goodluck lady! you'll do great

If you're normally a wine drinker, you can carry a glass of wine (if I don't drink, people think I'm pregnant!) and pretend to drink it. No one will notice that you are not eating. At my first social event (4 days post-op) i would say things like "This is delicious!" and no one knew I hadn't had any of it. Like ChezNoel said, we are much ,more aware of our actions than others are. Have FUN!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
