Do you ever have irritation from taking pills?

Recommended Posts

In the morning I take my daily meds with my coffee. They go down just fine with no issues.

I get TMJ headaches often though and always later in the day. If I take just 1 Aleve I feel this burning feeling for 20-30 minutes afterwards. I guess maybe its sort of like a heartburn feeling. I definitely feel like the burning is around my band.

Should I try taking it with something warm instead or ask my doctor for a liquid version? It's not the Aleve itself, yesterday I took a Audafed and had the same burning pain.

That could be a sign the pill isn't passing through the band but rather dissolving above it. That's not good and can lead to erosion, especially since Aleve is an NSAID.

I would talk to your doctor ASAP. You might want to switch to liquid.

My morning pills go down just fine though and they are bigger than the Aleve.

It doesn't matter if some go down, all that matters is the fact some don't. If you're feeling burning around your band, something isn't right and it sounds like some are dissolving above the band.

If it were me, I'd be making an appointment with my doctor immediately.

It will take me weeks to get in with my surgeon but my PCP knows all about my band and is good with prescribing me meds that will go down easier. I could see her this week.

Do you know if Aleve even comes in liquid? I know Motrin and Tylenol does but they don't work for me like the Aleve does.

I'm pretty sure Naproxen does come in liquid but you have to get it through your doctor most likely. (Naproxen is the active ingredient in Aleve). I'm sure he'll be able to either tell you where to buy it or give you a prescription for it.

Does your doctor know you are taking NSAIDs with a band on a regular basis? This is not recommended for us, since NSAIDs are believed to increase the risk of erosion. I took ibuprofen or aleve for years prior to banding and only take it occasionally, in liquid form, when I absolutely need it. I have spinal stenosis and osteoarthritis and with my weight loss, I don't need the medication so much.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
