Did my lap band slip?

Recommended Posts

I was having a pain in the center of my chest last night, it was like a spasm. This morning I feel Ike I have something stuck in my throat and I'm coughing a little. It feels weird to swallow my own saliva, and I haven't even tried eating yet because I don't want that spasming to start again. It seems worse when I'm sitting down. Do you think my lap band could have slipped? I can't go to the doctor till tomorrow. I'm drinking hot tea now, hopefully that will work.

Unfortunately there's no way we can know or even guess, just be sure to get into your surgeon tomorrow. If it has slipped, the sooner they catch it the better chance you have of being able to fix it without surgical intervention.

Personally, I'd stick to liquids until you see your doctor tomorrow, just to be safe.

Best wishes.

When this happened to me the doc said I should lay off the hot and cold liquids until later, Some people are sensitive to temps at the beginning I guess. But call your doc they will be able to tell you exactly whats going on. Better safe than sorry!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
