I'm a stomach sleeper, are you?

Recommended Posts

Have anyone had any problems after healing from surgery with sleeping on their stomachs?

How long did it take you after surgery to go back to sleeping on your stomach?

Can you feel the port when you lay down?

This Was My Biggest Whining Issue After Surgery!!

I Had TROUble laying on my side and stomach for a good week. then about the middle of week two i was able to sleep on my side//stomach.

so i say two weeks and you should be able to sleep comfortably again.

fyi-my port is in the upper center line of my abdomen, below my diaphram. sounded awkward to me at first too, but i would not have it any other place now that i am used to it.

After my 1st surgery it took about 3 weeks to comfortable sleep on my left side & stomach.

I had surgery again last week and it's definitely my biggest complaint right now. I was just telling DH last night that I wanted to sleep on my tummy sooooo bad.

Just 2 positions are comfortable for a couple of weeks after surgery: your back and your right side (if your port is on your left side a couple of inches from your belly button).

Also, another sucky thing is the fact that I have to wake up completely in order to move from 1 position to the other (because it hurts).

Hopefully you'll have it easier than me - a lot of people do! I think I'm just a big baby. In my defense, I DO have very sensitive skin so maybe that's why.

I had to wait about three weeks before I could comfortably sleep on my stomach again. I was afraid for a while I wouldn't be able to! I can still feel my port sometimes when I change position, but it doesn't hurt.

I actually found myself on my stomach 2 days after my surgery. I know that I started out on my side, but old habits die hard! I slept on my stomach from then on. I was just careful when I layed down and got up, and I didn't move while asleep...

I had surgery on 3/30/06 and I STILL cannot sleep on my left side (my favorite position). On about Day 10, I could sleep on my right side but, even now, that is not very comfortable. I had my post-op visit with the surgeon today and commented to him that my stomach/abdominal area was still swollen and that I really could only sleep comfortably on my back. He replied that some people can take up to 4-5 weeks before the swelling is down completely and, at that time, can sleep in all positions.

So............ I wait......

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
