Ok for starters I am not banded yet but will be with in the next few weeks! 1) how do you know what size band you will have? 2) Did any of you have to stay in the hospital overnight?3) I am wondering how much weight shold one expect to lose?

Your doctor will decide what size band you get.

I spent one night in the hospital. Probably not necessary, but all my doctors patients do.

I think the most current studies will say the average loss is around 70% of your excess weight. Everyone is different though

He/she will probably be 90% sure prior to surgery, but could decide to change sizes during surgery. Mine ended up using what he figured. I have a AP Large 14cc band.

Somethings, like the size of my band, I left to my surgeon's expertise to decide.

I stayed in hospital overnight and was glad for the care in that time.

Good luck.

I have a 10cc band. The band size your surgeon uses depends greatly on your anatomy.

I had to stay overnight in the hospital. It appears most do.

How much weight you lose is entirely up to you. If you're willing to work for it, you can lose 100% for your excess weight. It all depends on much you're willing to follow the band rules and do the work.

I also have a 10cc band. My doc typically keeps worrying overnight but because I was walking within 15 minutes of coming out of anesthesia he let me go home that day.

My band size??? no clue! I was outpatient and left the decision to the surgeon. I was in at 7:30 and home before noon!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
