2 days post op-back in the hospital

Recommended Posts

I got banded Thurs. I was nauseous & in pain thurs & fri. The pain has subsided but the nausea has become much worse and has progressed to dry heaving/retching, I've taken in small sips of Clear Liquids only. This am dr prescribed phenergan suppositories but they didn't help. Now I've just been admitted to the hospital and am hoping this is just a small bump in the road. But so far for me the banded journey has been horrible.

Oh no! I'm so sorry you're going through this. That was my biggest fear that I would be nauseaus following the surgery. I got lucky. I really hope this is something the docs can take care of soon and that the rest of your recovery goes smoothly.

So sorry to hear this. Let us know what they find. Where you taking pain meds? They cause extreme nausea for me. I hope that is your problem also. Don't give up, things will get better! You'll be in my thoughts and prayers!

For pain I was prescribed Tylenol 3 I took 2 doses because the pain went away quickly. But the nausea keeps getting worse. So far the only thing the dr has said is "this happens to some people" they're doing bloodwork, and starting iv fluids and nausea meds

I was also sent home with a little anti nausea patch that was placed behind my ear to help with nausea. It is supposed to last for 3 days.

I was banded Dec 28,2012 and was in the ER the next morning at 2am. Nausea, pain and dehydration. They gave me fluids, dilauded and zofran. It didn't really help,it just had to run it's course for a few days. You'll be fine, just give it time. Hang in there,it's worth it

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
