First mushie meal 9 days post-op

Recommended Posts

I just finished my first meal on the mushie stage. I was banded last Wednesday the 9th, and I've been getting hungry the past two days on my full liquid diet, which included yogurt, pudding, and puréed Soups. So I was looking forward to eating real food for the first time in over three weeks.

I scrambled two eggs, set a timer for 20 minutes, got the smallest plate and fork I could find, and sat down. It was my first meal following all the rules, including waiting a full minute after swallowing. Boy did I learn a lot in those twenty minutes!

First, I'm a wolfer, apparently. Normally I would have finished those eggs in two minutes or less. Breaking this habit is going to be tough. Second, I can feel my band. I read something on here about a "soft finish" when the body gives a signal like a sigh or hiccup or burp that you're done. I paused at nearly exactly twenty minutes, and I burped and felt ... Done. Amazing. My body said something, I heard it and responded appropriately, and I threw away most of one egg because my body had had enough.

Amazing. Slow and kind of boring to eat as this first meal was, I'm still shocked by the things I've learned about myself. Just wanted to share :)

That's great! What a great story! Good to hear from someone whose following the rules so well.

We all pre opers haven't listened to our body in years! (At least myself)

You're lucky you could move so quickly to mushies. A lot of us had to wait 14 days. As a warning you may feel less full as you heal. Just want to give you a heads up.

Congrats on your first meal. Try to remember those signs. As the swelling goes down these signs may slip away until you get fills and restriction.

Practice the eating habits every time you eat. Almost a year banded and I still have to slow down and take smaller bits.....very easy to forget.

Sounds like you are doing great, keep it up!

I'm jealous!! I was banded the 8th and I'm on liquids (pudding, creamed Soups, jello) for 3 weeks! :-( I want eggs!!!

I'm glad it went well for u! I had some small curd cottage cheese last night and felt full after eating just 1/3 cup!

thanks for posting your first experience with mushies. I was banded on the 14th and have been wondering alot about how the next stage would go. I'm still all liquid but have been hungry and am hoping that mushies will leave me more satisfied.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
