Doing well 5 1/2 months out but...

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was banded July 27,2012 and have lost close to 50lbs. All is going well but I do notice slight discomfort on my port side. It comes and goes but I realize if I sit for a long time with my body kind of twisted towards the band, it cause discomfort. The port site looks fine and no pain to touch or warm. Is it still healing internally? Oh and I have no issues eating; it all goes down well.

I was banded around the same time as you. I get port discomfort very little, it comes and goes. Its not painful or anything. I noticed when I am wet from the shower and I am leaning on that side to wash, I get a little discomfort. I told my surgeon about it, he checked the area and all was great!

Its pretty normal, unless of course you are experienceing excruciating pain, then that would need addressing. It seems to be common. On your next visit to your surgeon, bring the subject up for peace of mind :)

I was banded July 25, 2012 ... Just two days before you. I've lost 30. I needed to lose a total of 75 pounds, altogether. I lost 13 Lbs. on pre-diet and been on several plateaus. Frustrating at times, but hanging in there. I had several serious medical issues and that is one of the reasons I wanted a band. Get off all these medications! My port is tender some times but I think it's because it is something foreign under the skin and it does get poked with needles for fills occasionally. Had three very small fills and in the green zone. I wish the losing was faster, but it is NOT a gain, thank God.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
